Marie Kelly is in an excellent position, near the beach, tavernas, shops, although it's a fair walk to the main street. All the staff, including management, cleaners, bar staff (well done Alexandros for memorising all our names by the next day x x and Natalie for all the laughs, resort information and giving Arthur a ride in his wheelchair x x) . Everybody was friendly and welcoming. The rooms, pool, and the bar are spotless, the showers hot, the sheets and towels clean and sufficient pots and pans to make snackies. There was even a little oven to warm up our cheese pies. Safe boxes, late check outs and aircon all available, although we thought the aircon at 50 euros week was a bit much, it worked efficiently and made us comfortable. Beds comfy and rooms spacious. We found the resort had something for everyone, nightlife available at Main Street, but area around Marie Kelly much more suitable for families with the beach virtually on the doorstep, there was even surf on a couple of days, much fun. this complex is alright if you only want to be laid around the pool all day as its a 25 mins walk into the resorts main strip, if you can call it a strip (one street ) , the beach is all shingle and only a few yards wide. But the staff at maria kelly make up for the lack of entertainment as they try hard to make your holiday eventful (a quiz once a week on fridays & karioki on a sunday). My wife & i dont like to go to english bars while on holiday, but most of the greek ones where shut as there wasnt many people around. If you wanted to go out of the resort either you had to hire a car or go by bus (also 25 mins walk away) if you want an exiting holiday go to malia or hersonnissos down the road as this place is so quiet bordering on one foot in the grave.

We have just returned from a fantastic two weeks holiday in Gouves, Where we stayed in the Villa Marie Kelly, that is the ideal place to lounge around the pool sunbathing, socialise at the bar and entertainment nights or simply to use as a base to tour Crete. We did all of the afore mentioned. Our first couple of days was spent sunbathing at the pool and chilling out in the evening at the bar and lounge were there was always a warm friendly welcome from Natalie, Alex, Olga and Demitris. We hired a car for 5 days and travelled around Crete and visited many places of interest with the help and advice from Alex. 4th time we have been to Gouves, best accommodation we have been to. Didn't start off too well as when we arrived in the middle of the night, due to a mix-up we had been given the wrong sized apartment and not enough beds made up! That was quickly sorted out next morning and we were moved to a lovely large apartment with a sea view. It was above the reception and bar area, which was a bit of a concern as I had read the other reviews before we went, but there was very little noise from the bar so either they have responded to criticism, or have done some soundproofing, or maybe others perception of noise is different from ours.
Nice pool area, just about enough sunbeds, close to beach, close to tavernas, must mention Skorpios, Philipos and the grill house near the Xroads in the centre of the village - all highly recommended.
Didn't eat much at the bar, but seemed fine for drinks and snacks, staff very friendly and helpful.
All in all, would definitely return and recommend to others.
