“My Home Away From Home”

I was tired of dealing with my stressful job when, by the grace of God, my wife suggested a trip to PR. Beach and Ocean relaxation are available where I come from, but seclusion is what we were after. The ocean front view was fantastic. With a nice private and clean beach, right across the street, I easily let my troubles soak behind in the relaxing shore as the gentle breeze nourished my spirit. I would recommend this stay to any of my friends, and will do so as a matter of fact.

“Perfect”

This was a perfect vacation for everyone. We just had a family reunion there, and it was the perfect place. Is not that far either. The rooms were spotless. Everybody had a great time, you can either go to the beach or the pool. The beach is private and very clean. The hotel is cozy and is does'not have a lot of villas, which makes it a lot more private in comparison with other hotels. There is a supermarket near, in case of need of goodies or an emergency. The price of a cab from the hotel to the airport was excellent too....!

“Perfect PR chill spot. Beach is across the street and everything else around the corner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

Me and a friend of mine suddenly decided to go to San Juan for the weekend from Ft. Lauderdale. We took a chance on this hotel based on their website and were not disappointed. It was the perfect chill shot right outta San Juan we were looking for. We hooked up with a couple of our friends down there and ended up bringing them back to the hotel. They loved the place and so did we. It was the best weekend in PR that I've had in a while and the Lucia Beach Villa might be our new hot spot in San Juan. I would recommend this one to anyone that wants to have a hotel stay in the PR that is secluded and romantic. Very chill, cool staff, good rooms. The villa looked great beach side, too. Lucia Beach Villas realizes that dreamy island feel you want when you go to PR. If that's what you're looking for than this is the one.

“Depends what you are looking for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Lucia Villas in Dec. 2007. We drove from San Juan, which was a long but fun drive. Yabucoa is a beautiful but very remote place. The beach at the hotel is nothing special. I wouldn't want to spend time there and definitely it's not safe to swim. We ended up driving to nicer beaches such as Luquillo. We enjoyed the villas, the lower and upper level layout. It was great having a kitchen. The sound of the ocean when sleeping at night is AWESOME. The pool area seemed nice, though we never used it. For us PR is all about the beaches and this hotel is not close to any of the good ones. My one complaint in terms of service was my very first interaction with the owner/manager. When checking in, I walked up to the front desk and she said " Can I help you" in a rude tone of voice and with a rude expression on her face. It was kind of like "what are you doing here". Maybe because I look like a local Puerto RIcan? I have no idea. First impressions are everything in the hospitality business. That greeting left a very poor impression on me. So I would say that if you are looking for a romantic getaway in a remote location and do not mind driving pretty far to get to a good beach...this could be the place for you. Our next stay in PR, we stayed at a cute little place one block from the beach in San Juan. Much better, no driving and less expensive!

Trip Advisor and Expedia has Lucia Beach Villas listed as a 3.5-star hotel, which is a joke. It's a 2-star at best. Jeanette, the owner, told us that she's "honest" about the fact that it's a 2-star hotel, but it doesn't look like she has done anything to get that rectified with any of these websites.

It seemed cute enough, but the rooms were awful. It was horribly furnished; it was clear that they just slapped the place up with no regard for quality whatsoever. The furniture, what there was of it, was cheap cheap WalMart laminated crap. You couldn't roll over in the bed without feeling like it was going to fall apart. The hotel is only two years old but the beds sagged in the middle and the futon on the first floor was hard as a piece of plywood. They only provided one nightstand in the bedroom and there were only pedestal sinks in the bathrooms with no place to put your toiletries. The shower was pretty gross.

There was only one other villa occupied when we got there and then a family with a baby showed up. Guess where they put them? Right next to us, instead of one on the end. The baby screamed most of the night, which Jeanette was very defensive about, (basically implying that she didn't believe that we could hear a screaming baby) and we were moved to the end villa. But that didn't help the fact that it was still a crappy hotel. We were totally fed up and checked out early.

Jeanette seemed nice enough at first, but she turned out to be less than gracious. She knew we weren't happy and was very defensive. Expedia promised us our money back for the two nights we didn't stay there, but we haven't received the refund and now they're changing their story and saying that they need Jeanette's "permission," which we ain't gonna get. She also lied to Expedia and told them that we didn't go through the "formal" check out process, which we absolutely did.

Lastly, the beach definitely isn't one you'd want to hang out on. It's small and dirty and the hotel is in a location where you have to drive to get anywhere. We moved to a REAL 3.5 star hotel and had a wonderful time, the antithesis of our experience at Lucia Beach Villas. Don't even consider staying here.

We designed and built our family-friendly villa hotel. Most families are interested in budget accommodations. We are rated 2 stars by the Puerto Rican Tourism Company their designation for budget hotels. As a villa hotel we are rated by Expedia as specialty lodging and given 3 1/2 stars.

Our property is 3 years old, bright and clean. Most of our guests enjoy the accommodations. Our villas are separated by reinforced concrete walls which are normally pretty sound proof. However, the parents of the sick infant confirmed he cried most of the night. Because the baby was finally sleeping we offered to move this couple to our most sought after villa closest to the sea, and they agreed to the move.

The day before they left, the wife came into the office to report that a Redbox DVD was missing from their villa. When asked if it might have been misplaced, she was certain that it was "stolen". Less than an hour later the husband came in to tell us that the DVD had been found in his briefcase.

When we finally realized that the guests were gone the next day, we assumed they were too embarassed to check out. They were billed through Expedia for the entire stay as per our polic y that was signed by them at check in.

Over a month later they asked Expedia for a refund and when refused wrote this review the same day.
