“Relaxing break for a close group”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

After several weeks of planning I managed to surprise my partner with a night in this very pleasant hotel along with her sister, brother and their respective partners. Booking was not easy and this is one of very few complaints. You have to book the spa break through a call centre but the hotel details, such as dining arrangements direct with the hotel. Not only did I have to make several phone calls but at the end paying the bill for three rooms nearly defeated all concerned.
Turning to the hotel it is a beautiful property, even on a grey February day. The rooms are excellent with many great features and are extremely comfortable. A few small items looked a little bit tired and hopefully there will be some money spent on attending to things such as a shower tap that is hard to turn off.
The lounges are well laid out and comfortable and the afternoon tea that came with the spa package was of exceptional quality. Tea however should be served with a pot of hot water. Each time we got hot water but why do we always have to ask?
Our meal was served in the conservatory, as requested. The cooking was faultless and the staff attentive but picked up well on the pace that we wanted. A shame that the set price menu has extras all over it; a slight embarrassment can be caused by guests thinking that they are being greedy incurring extra cost. The wine list was good both in choice and quality.
Breakfast was a pleasant change from those awful buffets with dried out usual suspects. Great fresh ingredients served in some unusual combinations that really worked.
Partner and her sister reported on the spa saying that it was well run and delivered the goods.
Overall a great stay with only the few niggles. One thing that we all agreed we would change if we could was the picture of Mr Bannantyne in every room. We like the result of his management but consider that he should trust the site manager to deliver and take a back seat. At least having the pictures free standing makes it easy to lay them down to hide his face.

Room Tip: All good but 27 tops the league

“Fantastic one night break at this beautiful Spa Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I had a lovely break (overnight Saturday) with a spa treatment included. The staff were very efficient and friendly. My husband used the gym whilst I went into the spa, lovely hot tub. We both had neck, back and shoulder massages and my husband had a leg massage and I had an Indian head massage. The treatments were lovely.
Our room was beautiful (Narnia) and the views wonderful. The hotel building is old and exquisite.
We had a 3 course meal in the restaurant which was delicious.
Overall a wonderful break and highly recommended.

“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Booked in for a 3 day post Christmas relaxation and found this hotel to be a haven of peace and quiet.

My deluxe room was absolutely beautiful with it's own private patio and access to the garden. the exercise room was small but well equipped and the spa was beautiful.
I had two treatments in the spa both of which were wonderfully relaxing with knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of quality products and cooked food.

Will definitely return next year.

“Hotel ok disappointing staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Dear Chartlon House,
Normally we don't really place any reviews on websites but this just needs to be said.
Our stay was ok (pleasant), but maybe some of the staff you have got you should train better!
We stayed at your hotel in January 2012, reception was lovely and room ok, only complaint is your waiting staff. We had dinner in your restaurant which was ok (considering there was only us and 2 other people in restaurant). That's why I don't understand out bad service. We had a waitress (which clearly to us was neither from here nor was she trained well). She was not very pleasant if I might say a bit rude as well. No smile, not asking how the food is etc... Well we didn't not have dessert, rather we decided to go for a walk instead. We taking a walk and stop at an Inn not to far away from the hotel to have Coffee. After a small while we came across your waiting staff ( I guess with a quiet night she just finished her shift). Don't get me wrong everyone should be entitled to a nice drink after work, but some can take it to far. More to our disappointment is that this member of staff was very loudly talking about the Hotel and Guest ( and may I say not in a very nice way). She must have recordnized us as she very quickly left the inn. Well I don't know what to say but maybe you should train you staff more of being loyal to their workplace and also not talk about (annoying ) guest, cause you never know who u ran into.
Other than that our stay was pleasant. Not sure with staff like that that we will return....

“Bliss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

This was our second stay at Charlton house and this time was even better than the last.

We stayed in room 18 the coach house. You get your own from door and a secluded courtyard. The room was beautiful with a beamed ceiling and split level living. The bed was huge and really comfortable.

The spa was as lovely as we remembered. The hotel was relatively quiet so much of the time we had the place to ourselves. I had a cellutox wrap and facial with Sophia. It was amazing and very relaxing.

We ate in the restaurant both nights of our stay. The food was excellent quality and the service faultless.

All staff we met went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. Thankyou to James the deputy duty manager. We will definately be back soon.
