Overall, my two stays there (a week apart from each other) were excellent. The hotel location is just off the A1 (E30) motorway, and just a stone's throw away from the A35 and German A30. The car park is very large, meaning that you don't struggle for parking.
The rooms are extremely spacious - the "single" bed is more akin to a king-size one. The matress is soft (but not too soft), which made for a very comfortable night's sleep. The large flatscreen TV and other facilities one would expect to find in a 4-star hotel make the rooms well-equipped. The bathroom is, again, very spacious - my single rooms had a shower AND bath, and six towels.
The choice for breakfast is large indeed, and to see the eggs and bacon being cooked in front of the guests was a nice touch.
It is a shame, therefore, that there were some negative aspects.
Firstly, the rooms have no air conditioning / climate control, which makes hot days and nights quite uncomfortable.
Secondly, some aspects of customer service, including politeness, could be improved. Upon arrival, I asked for a baggage trolley, seeing as my grandmother was struggling somewhat with her bags. What I was offered was a catering trolley, which she (and I to some extent) felt was quite insulting.
Having said that, the staff were quick to deal with us, in that they attended to us straightaway at the reception desk, and ordering drinks from the restaurant (the bar is shut on Sundays) was extremely efficient.
As for value, I reserved rooms with the Van der Valk Special rate, which, for me, was 59 EUR including breakfast. This is outstanding value for what you get; however, I feel that the standard rate, which at the time of writing excluded breakfast, is quite excessive.
Overall, a very good and pleasant stay, and would certainly stop there again.
