My husband and I were so looking forward to a romantic weekend away here, and everything about Opduin was perfect for it (sauna, Turkish steam bath, swimming pool, massage chair, cozy atmosphere in the brasserie, easy access for strolling on the beach, in-room breakfast option, etc) until you get to your room and find... Of course... The ubiquitous Dutch "double" bed. Which, as annoyingly always, is two tiny single beds pushed together, complete with one pillow each and one tiny single duvet! Not even the pretense of a queen/king bed through the commonly used illusion of a single large bed cover! Talk about a romance-killer. But this is unfortunately par for the accommodation course in Holland, so not surprising, just annoying.

The location is more than ok. Close to the dunes and the beach. The place itself is fine too. Nice swimming pool and facilities. However, the food in the restaurants is poor. Do not expect anything special. Poor service by stagiaires without super vision and no reaction if you make remarks about the quality of the food. We are still expecting a reaction.....

Hotel Opduin is a very nice hotel at a reasonable price. The rooms are more than adequate, but both the bed and the TV set are a bit on the small side. The bath room was clean and included both a tub and a (tiny) shower. Also, no mini-bar.

We stayed here on a mild winter weekend, but were surprised about the overall temperature at the hotel. Older folks might like it, we didn't.

The reception was pleasant, with knowledgeable staff. But the handshake for both myself and my wife were a little too much of a good thing. Also, if you want a map of the island, expect to pay 3 euros.

The 'a la carte' restaurant should be booked early if you want to have dinner there, although they do have a 'Brasserie'. But Texel has many restaurants close by, so no need to eat there really.

Breakfast was excellent and included many things like champagne and freshly baked eggs. Although full size croissants were replaced by mini ones.

Location is great, the hotel is close to the sea and in the middle of sand dunes.
