“A very special stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We visited Duin- en Kruidberg for a second time this januari. At arrival the house is impressive, as is the hall and the staircase. We had requested a room in the old house ( there are also rooms in the modern annex constructed under the terrace) and were not dissapointed. We got a nicely decorated room under the roof. The bathroom was luxurious. It did not have a tub, but it dit have a very good shower, which suits us better. Though the walls of this old house are not very thick we nevertheless had a very quiet night sleep. It was not untill we had breakfast at sunday morning that we realised that the hotel was pretty busy. Despite the many people the staff managed breakfast very well though. No empty platters, and coffee and tea arrived quickly. We had dinner in the one star restaurant "de vrienden van Jacob" (actually the reason of our stay), which was great. And because we were very fortunate with the weather we spend two days walking in the beautifull dunes that surround the hotel and on the beach.
Overall we had a great stay in this hotel. The only minus is perhaps the price, compaired to similar luxury hotels we find the rooms a little overpriced.

Room Tip: The rooms in the old house are special and very romantic. We had a garden facing room with a lovely...

“Oh my God!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

This was the last leg of our honeymoon! And what a way to end our honeymoon! We loved every minute of our stay at this place! Highly recommend that you rent a car before you go there so that you can enjoy the picturesque surroundings! And walk around the whole property...its beautifully kept and filled with modern art! We loved the feel of the old-world charm of the estate to the towel-peococks decorating our bed holding a small bottle of perfumed oil at their beak! Food at the michelin-star restaurant was definitely worth the wait of 2 days! The bathrooms could have been made a little bigger and better, perhaps with a bath to go with it! But nevertheless, highly recommend this place for couples just wanting to spend time with each other, with no other distractions!

“A really interesting place but not a good base for Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

This is a rabbit Warren of a hotel, up down and all around to get anywhere. That said, the rooms are quite OK, albeit the new ones are totally lacking in character. Service levels could be a lot better but the food is excellent. The location is great if all you want to do is walk and cycle through the national park and have a really relaxing time in such a wild part of a such a densely settled country. If walking, beware that the track signage is not as complete as it could be. But if you are thinking of using this place as a base for Amsterdam, think again and don't do it.

Room Tip: Ask to see a few and be given a choice of old or new, distant or close.

“Too pricey for service received. Wouldn't recommend it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We planned a romantic getaway. So we chosed this hotel.

Check in and arrival to room: When arriving check in took too long. Afterwards, the lady from reception explained us how to arrive but the explanation was as it follows: here go the rights then in the stairs to left then go down then to left then to right walk a bit to upstairs and she kept on going... OMG!

There were no clear signs and we were obviously lost until one person of tr staff took us to the room and it was so complicated.

Room: There room was ok. Downside it was separate beds. Too warn at night! Not to nice for a romantic get away. They had free coffee.

Service at lounge bar and staff : Ronald was a nice waiter he really put an effort here. We wanted cocktails and there were no at the moment due to internal reasons but still he managed to create one for us. He is the only one smiling and taking care of you. The rest just didn't.

They missed our request for breakfast in the room so we stayed waiting and nothing was offered to compensate.

Check out took to long!!

Never again.

“Fantastic experience, I would give 4,5 star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We had company training in this hotel. I don´t understand why here and not in Amsterdam, but probably to keep us away from those coffee bars at night :-)

If you look at the hotel website, it already looks very impressive.. like a chateau or a hunting lodge. And that´s also the feel of the place when you arrive, however, with a little modern twist. I spent 3 nights here and haven´t left the hotel for the whole time. The rooms are large. The beds, duvets and sheets are very comfortable and soft and I am very demanding when it comes to this. I had great sleep. Every room and meeting rome and almost every corner has it´s own nespresso machine... I feel like half of our people got addicted to the coffee during those 3 days.

The food was very good. The breakfast was small but offered all the goodies. The only thing I was missing was selection of freshly prepared eggs. The lunch was simple but the dinners were lovely. French style dining.

The only complain I would have is that on the first night when we arrived I have asked for Campari. They run out of it so I have asked them if they could get it for the next evening as this is my favorite drink.... this has repeaded itself for 3 nights and I never got my Campari...

But overall, very pleasant experience. The staff seems to be very very young, but is very pleasant and professional. The setting is lovely. I would like to come back together with my husband for a getaway weekend.

Room Tip: the building has lot of levels and lot of stairs. it´s almost like a labyrinth. so if you are travel...
