Located in the countryside west of Amsterdam, this would almost qualify as a rural retreat, except for the constant aircraft noise and proximity to the motorway.
Bare brick walls, low ceilings, a sprawling two-floor building and basic furnishings give it a motel feel. The rooms are comfortably large, the bathrooms more so, with separate bath and shower.
Reception staff were helpful, efficient and friendly, having no trouble checking in many guests.
Wi-fi is available yet expensive.
The restaurant is huge, and seems to serve the local community, where middle aged people with a few euros to spare, yet no great love of the culinary arts, congregate for a night out. The food is edible, no wild new ideas or foreign flavours apparent. Steak, salmon, caesar salad, mushroom soup, pommes frites, were the staples. The wine list has well-known yet unremarkable choices (Torres, Rosemount), the poor waiters seem to be local students, some struggling to come to grips with a busy evening service. You'll be fed well, but you won't remember it.
The bar had a mixed theme with cosy gas fire, loud dance music, and a huge screen playing football, all struggling to create a cohesive ambiance. Servings of liquor were generous enough. The drink menu did not stretch to cocktails, that would have been way too fancy for this place. Whoever rated it four stars needs to revisit what four star service means and have a little chat with themselves.
