“never again!!!! La Sirena bit better”

.stayed at the Monterrey on a last minute deal we were told it wasn't far from the sea (joke) luckly we had a car because my husband is disabled it was a good 20min walk and up hill coming back. upon arrival we were given a room overlooking a tip, the girls on the reception were lovely and was happy to change our room to over looking the pool which was lovely. we couldn't understand why it was so quiet until we were told that we would be their last guests and they were shutting the day we were to leave which was 3rd Oct. when we went for a shower we had no hot water, meal times were minimul as to what they had we were half board, no soup and food limited and cold. after 3 days we still had no hot water and was told that it would not be fixed because it was shutting, after 3 days of complaining we were finally moved to another of their hotels La Sirena which was all inclusive, which was thank god better although they were also shutting aswell. they were running out of different things and not replacing i.s no wine. It was a bit noisier because it had more younger people and it was the end of season club parties and all the sun beds around the pool were broken if you wanted one you had to put a blow up bed on top. staff were lovely and the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent but i wouldn't return to either of them again.

Room Tip: "Dont go end of season"

“Decent!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

We stayed in this hotel, not expectedly, as we were booked into Del Mar apartments, which was then shut down, and we were moved to Pisces park, after reading the reviews for Pisces Park i wasn't really looking forward to our stay but as there was 6 of us (girls) i wasnt too worried. When we arrived at Pisces we were told we were overbooked and had to go to the Monterray in the bay, after travelling and drinking all day all we wanted was to dump our stuff so we werent best pleased, but this was the best thing that could have happened as Pisces was supposed to be a total dump. Arrived, and the hotel was nice, in the middle of nowhere mind, but decent. We dumped our things and got a taxi to West End, this was only 7 euros, which wasn't bad sharing between 3 of us. The next day we went to explore, pool area was nice, pool was full of leaves from the trees but we werent bothered. Met 5 guys from London, who actually made our holiday, who were also staying on our floor in the hotel and spent the full day around the pool. Families there with children, didn't think this was a good idea as mainly young people staying in the hotel. Our room was basic, a bed and a bathroom, not many mirrors for 6 girls to get ready in but what more do you need? Food was awful, ate chips on the days we did eat in there, and toast or buns on a morning. Maids didn't come in our room too often, didn't want to risk being robbed so kept them out but she changed our towels most days and gave us toilet rolls every day.

Guy on night shift - pain in the backside - Anything you did was too noisy, telling everyone to Shhhh standing in the corridors, shouting at people. Girls didnt ever want to order us a taxi even though we offered them money, just kept pointing to the pay phone so some nights took a good while to get a taxi out.

Overall decent hotel if you just want basic, would definately go back!! Had the best holiday of my life at this hotel, so it can't be that bad!!!

“Beware!!!”

So I stayed in Monterrey before and liked it despite the reviews so I booked to travel back with my boyfriend this year.

I arrived at 3am and was told that the hotel was over booked and that we were being sent to Hotel Maritim.

If I wanted to stay in club maritim I would have booked that but I didnt due to the bad reviews it got (worse then here) and therefore I was still shipped there whether I agreed or not.

I have figured out what they do as it happens to often to be a mix up.

Monterrey, Maritim and Costa Sur and all sister hotels run by the same company. Maritimi and Monterrey have bad reviews on all the review sites which enevitably stops a lot of people from booking them. They threfore they take unlimited bookings on Costa Sur and Monterrey and just ship the overflow to Maritimi as they have very low bookings. Nearly everyone I spoke to in Maritim had not booked into this hotel and were in fact shipped there from either of the other two...

It's a bad way to do business so be careful.....

“good clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

Hotel was lovely and clean quite far out of san an and very far into the bay but if your looking for a cheap hotel in a more quiet area away from the madness so you can actully get some sleep after partying THEN THIS IS THE HOTEL YOU WANT!!! we had a teething problem when we first arrived though. We arrived at about 12 midnight only to be told by the night receptionist that there was NO ROOMS we were not the only ones either there were 2 other couples and a family. We were told we would have to go to other apartments which were part of the same group they were called the Sol bay appts we had to get a taxi to it and also were told we had to pay for this taxi but would be refunded the money at the sol bay when we got there . We were not happy to say the least but were to tired to argue the point so we agreed to go! We arrived at the sol bay and the night receptionist there told us he had no rooms available and was not awarewe were arriving he then contacted the Monterry via telephone and was having a very heated conversation with staff at the monterry i actually felt quite sorry for him as he had no clue about us coming. At this point i was close to tears the rectionist at the sol bay then said he would put us in a spare room he had and we would have to sort it out in the morning not happy but settled for that as was now knackered. He handed us keys to an appt and off we went the corridors walking towards the appt were scummy and run down it was dia we opend the apppt only to find there was peoples belongings in there HE HAD ONLY GIVEN US KEYS TO SOMEBODY ELSES ROOM!!!! good job we were honest we could of robbed them blind. we returned to reception and informed him . he appolgised then took us to nother appt block round the corner which was called the sol bay II . It was in complete darkness in the corridors looked very scary and unsafe glad i had my hubby and was not on my own or with my girly mates. we entered the appt to find it clean but no air con (and it was sweltering hot while we were there) and no lights the bathroom light was the only one that worked. apalling!!!! The next morning we went back to the reception and was refunded the taxi fare on production of the receipt. we then went back to the monterry via taxi ( which the monterry refunded the fare again on production of receipt) Once at the monterry the day receptionist sorted the whole mess out within minutes gave us a room and we got a free of charge safety deposit box and only charged a ten euro deposit for air con and tv remote. Once settled into the monterry after our terrible awful first night we were very happy with this hotel maids and staff nice and friendly. Whinchs restaraunt was right by the hotel and was fab food is gorgeous and it is owned by english who are so friendly. I do recommend if your on a tight budget like we were that insted of paying for taxis to san an and buses to walk straight down from hotel to were the old pint pot is to the beach and walk round the coastline on the beach as it only takes ten mins to get to the start of san antonio. we only realised this on our last day and had wasted about a 100 euros on taxi fares we were gutted we had wasted so much money. would definatly stay at the monterry again but would hope we would not have a first night mishap again.

“Basic, Cheap Base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Stayed here a couple of times in the past and it has improved over the years, its great for a basic, cheap base for your holidays, just dont expect 5 star luxury accommodation!! Spent a lot of time at Winches bar restaurant near by which we look foward to every time we revisit; this place makes our holiday, lovely atmosphere and great family place. Wouldnt reccommend this accommodation to anyone expecting to walk to the busy bars and club within san antonio.
