“AVOID! THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!! THE STAFF ROB U BLIND!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This has to be the worst place ive ever stayed, on the surace it looked ok, its in a nice location on the sunset strip, so we had an amazing view, but that where it ends........the staff were very unhelpfull when we got are room broken into, the night person on reception just shrugged his sholders, he couldnt of cared less, and he wouldnt ring the police to report the brake in. we have come to the conclution he was in on the brakeins, as he was seen doing things like walking the coradoors in the dark with his set of keys, going into peoples rooms, he tried going into our friends room one night, so i stopped him and asked him what he was doing! we did get our room broke into, but they used a key, they knew what they were looking for, they took my friends suitcase which had some valuble items in it, nothing else was touched and they very kindly locked the door behind them, and went out the fire door which someone had left a brick in it......There were 3 other brake ins within a few days of ours, a new group of lads who had only been there a day had EVERYTHING! stollen out of there room they left em with nothing, and again the hotel staff did nothing, wouldnt ring the police, nothing......they ended up leaving the hotel.....Then theres the cleaning all the maids seem to do apart from case peoples rooms, is mop the floors and empty the bins, they dont change the bed sheets (we stayed for 2 weeks) and dont give u clean towels, we had to resort to taking clean towels off there cart when they werent looking...... The staff on reception will aso give room keys out to anyone who asks for one, there we people who werent even staying there who asked for keys to apartmens and there were just given them!! the staff didnt even check...they really couldnt care less, we did get told that a lot of the staff were illegal works getting paid next to nothing which is probally why there stealing everyones things!!!....Apart from the view we had and the good friends we made with people who stayed there i have nothing good to say about the catalina....please avoid this place dont go through what we did....

“AVOID, wouldn't let my dog stay there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Avoid, in fact DO NOT STAY HERE the place needs knocking down if not already.
Aweful staff, disgusting rooms, unsafe.

The only plus was the location on sunset strip but even now san antonio is getting worse.

“NEVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

Its very rare i write reviews and this one is long over due from my disastorous stay at the Catalina in August 2010 but i feel compelled to write this in hope it will stop people booking to stay in this hotel. I have been to San Antonio every year since 1998 to work and for holidays and have stayed in very basic hostels which make the Catalina look like paradise.

I paid about £400 for a twin room for 5 night stay with a guaranteed sea view and was very disapointed to be given a tiny room that just about fit 2 beds in it with no balcony and just a window facing the sea. After complaining the staff agreed to move my room the next day, because of this I decided not to get a safety depsit box and get one the next morning in the new room. This turned out to be a vital error. I went out for a few drinks returning to the room a couple of hours later . I kept my holiday money beside the bed in the suitcase with all my other belongings ready to move room the next day, I also know i locked the door before going to sleep.

I awoke in the morning to find all my money totalling about 1000 euros had been stolen from beside my bed so someone must have come in the room while i was sleeping and took everything, there was no sign of a break in so I could only presume it was an inside job.

The staff werent interested and informed me there was no CCTV coverage as the camera on that floor had broken, very convienent for an inside job. When reporting the crime I met 2 other people at the police station who had also been robbed the same night from the Catalina so it was obviously a targeted hotel and most likely an iside job! Unforunatley because I had no extra funds i had to spend the rest of my stay in that hotel and noticed how bad the security was. The doors which are on the sea front are open all night and the only security is an old man sat on reception half of the night so anyone could wonder in at any time.

Its a shame because the hotel is in a beautiful area on the sunset strip but it doesnt deserve to be there and I believe it should be shut down if the security doesnt change.

I would advise anyone considering staying in this hotel to not take the risk as you are risking having your money/belongings stolen even when you are asleep in the room.

If you are travelling on a budget the Norte Hostal is basic but cheap and friendly. If you have more money to spend on your hotel, i would recomend the Blau Park near Cala de Moro beach for couples and families. It only costs slighlty more than sea-view rooms at the Catalina and is a 4 star hotel with excellent security, quality rooms and sea-views.

I hope this review serves its purpose and stops people booking this hotel

“Very disappointing - great location cannot compensate for hostel's shabbiness and uncleanliness”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2010

We were sent here after booking a room for 5 days through OK Hostal, which appears to be a management agency for a chain of hotels/hostels on Ibiza.

Firstly, we were dropped off by our transfer coach at Hostal Torres (which shares the same address as OK Hostal), only to be given very poor directions to Catalina Aptos. Hotel (which, by the way is a hostel NOT a hotel), which took us about an hour to walk to/find - not acceptable at 3am when you are tired and want to go to sleep.

Secondly, whilst the service itself at the hostel was reasonable, the first room we were given, # 404, was small and dirty, several of the lights did not work, and the air conditioning leaked, which incidentally did so on to my brand new holdall. The night porter's answer to this was to just switch it off!

Requesting another room, we were given # 403, which was larger and had an excellent view over San Antonio bay, but was also dirty (especially the floors and the bath/wash hand basin/toilet), had a very small balcony, and periodically had a strong smell of sewage from the bathroom. The TV also did not work, the shower was too hot, and the cistern was constantly running. The hostel itself is generally shabby and uncared for with lots of litter lying around and most of the fixtures, fittings, and furniture either damaged or in various states of disrepair. It also attracts a certain type of clientele who are noisy and rowdy at all hours of the day.

The only positive comment I can make about this hostel is about its location, which is virtually on the sea front, just behind Savannah Beach Club and a few seconds walk from Cafe Mambo and Cafe Del Mar, and a few minutes’ walk to the West End etc. in one direction and Bar Kanya in the other.

Although we did not suffer any theft from our room as many other travellers have, we would never stay at this hostel again and would not only not recommend it to anyone, we would encourage others not to stay here as there are dozens of much better hotels/hostels on Ibiza offering much better value for money.

Please also note that the photos of the 'bar' on Trip Advisor are of Savannah Beach Club, not the bar of Catalina as it doesn't have one!

“cheap and cheerful and very good for watching the sunset”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

iv just come back from the catalina and after reading some of the reviews on here i was a bit worried about staying there but when i got there everything was fine, its located right by savannahs which is one of the sunset bars so you will get the best views from the sunset within just a few seconds walk, then only a 5 min walk to the west end and the beach just a bit further, the rooms are basic but the cleaners came everyday to give new towels, and also we had view over the sea which we didnt pay for just asked if any were available when we checked in, altho if you really want a sea view in peak time probably best to pay the extra at time of booking. we had aircon in our room which if you want the option to turn on and off you pay 20 euro for the remote and then you get your money back when you check out, the only downside was that ours was leaking water in which we made the staff aware of, the staff there were really friendly and if you need someone to keep your luggage when you check out then they have a room to keep it. Regarding the reviews mentioning robberies we didnt get robbed and no one that we spoke to did either there are safes there you can lock your stuff in or like we did lock important stuff in cases and hide stuff best you can. there isnt a pool at these apartments so i wouldnt recommend to those who like to use the swimming pools but to anyone else who wants a good location and somewhere cheap to stay i definatly recommend it.
