The whole complex actually consists of two hotels, each following a slightly different taste. The Fuerte Costa Luz is the older one, I would choose the new one next door, as its just a little more tastefully appointed. The rooms are well appointed, the grounds very nice and all areas clean. It is really a very nice complex to take a relaxing weekend holiday. Service is exceptionally friendly and kind. Hotel is mainly geared up for german tourists
I can recommend the hotel, but it is a tourist hotel, with all its drawbacks: One feels a little isolated from the real spain, as everything is a little too far to reach. Although it is very nicely decorated, it still lacks some refinements and detailing, that one would expect from a 4 star hotel.
Rooms: We had one of the suites, although very spacious and comfortable ist lacked detailing: Several lamps didn´t work, reception on both TV´s was bad, Radio DVD wasn´t working, Towel rack in bathroom was "tilting" on one screw, instead of two, we could not find any writing or notepad but several pens (?), the mini bar was a joke, because in order to get it refilled you have to place an order the day before (what kind of policy is that?).
Grounds:
Nice, but not as spacious as one might expect, it is much smaller than it looks on the pictures. Can get crowded.
Restaurant:
Breakfast Buffet is included and the selection is very good, but the timing is horrible. As breakfast is served only for a short time, there is quiet "a run" for it. Why they insist on serving you the coffee, rather than also doing this self-serve, is puzzling. As it is already crowded, you sometimes get your coffee "after" you have finished with the breakfast already. If you were lucky to find a place to sit, that has been cleaned up. Not a lack of staff, rather a lack of time ...
Service:
Tried to get just a coffee at 11am, right after breakfast = impossible. Just got the reply that breakfast was over. I was prepared to pay for the coffee, but no service availabel. Sorry, but thats not what one would expect
Parking:
Extra charge and too expensive-park your car on the streets, if you find space
Town of Conil:
Walking distance to downtown a little too far, if you want to head there for dinner. But if you look for something more original, it is worth it. May not look like much from the beach, but head downtown at night, it is very cozy and original.
Beach access:
A little further away, than one might expect from the pictures. Carefull, because the gate was locked sometimes and when we came back, the card reader refused to work. Beach itself a dream to walk.
Summary:
Nice hotel, but I expected a little more. They try very hard to please, but it just is not what one would expect from 4 star comfort. Internationally I would rank it as 3 stars.
