“Disappointed”

Me and my partner stayed in Oriental for one week in September 2010. This hotel was a little bit expensive for us (depends on your budget) so expectations were high. Unfortunately we were completely disappointed..
Room: we paid extra for the sea view but were put into the horrible street / kitchen extraction unit view which additionally was noisy throughout the day and night. We requested to be moved. Staff was not bothered at all and eventually (after 2 days) we were moved to the room next door which had a side sea view but far from what we expected. Overall the rooms are in need of repair but this is not the worst bit. What was really disgusting is the mould on the shower head. We are concerned about the cleanliness and this was unacceptable. The unit was changed when we requested but it should have been done before the arrival of the guests.
Staff: not helpful at all. Refused to help us with the transport booking. We had to make a call by ourselves - a single call from the room telephone cost us 10 euros, which is not much but a little help from the reception would be appreciated and remembered.
Overall, we would definitely not come back to this hotel as our stay was a disappointment.

“You get what you pay for”

This hotel cost £120 less per night than the Algarve Casino so expections were low. However I think that this hotel is good value for money. Rooms are in need of a refurb but the are clean and functional. I paid extra to secure a front sea view and the viwe was awesome. Breakfast was positively average. Bar is very expensive. 6 euro for a cocktail. Taking all into account I would return

Room Tip: Pay for the front sea view

spacious clean room , maids cleaned every day , location superb , breakfast plentiful with something for everyone , very friendly staff also very helpful , i was half board eve meals very nice but not much choice only 2 meals each night and drinks including tea not included had to pay which i found unusual , next time i would go b&b , no entertainment apart from singer who i thought was ok and enjoyed but your so close to other pubs/clubs etc it didnt matter , it has a nice pool and sitting area , the hotel has only 90 rooms so is small to others but i liked this , i was on my own and the staff all had time to chat , if you want a hotel which is quiet but close to the night life this is the hotel

Room Tip: go b&b not half board

“Very Very Average”

Our accommodation was poor, the balcony overlooked the kitchen complete with rusting & noisy extraction unit. When we requested a move it was refused as "The Oriental is full"....no apology or discount offered. The buffet breakfast was only adequate with limited choice & the worst coffee I have ever tasted. The pool & gardens were fine but I was surprised that we were expected to "rent" towels for the loungers. Unless both the accommodation & breakfast are substantially improved we shall not return.

“Do not expect too much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

Stayed for 7 nights in August on Bed & Breakfast basis. No assistance with luggage available or offered. The room allocated stunk of stale cigarette smoke despite supposedly a non-smoking hotel and despite our definite booking request of a non-smoking room. Upon asking for a room change this was begrudgingly given and we received a garden room which was fine and spacious and with direct access to pleasant and quiet gardens overlooking the magnificent beach. The bathroom was very small with an efficient bath shower although with threadbare towels. Use of a room safe was chargeable at an exorbitant daily rate by getting the safe lock key from reception - this was not mentioned or offered at check-in. There were no in-room pressing facilities and none available from reception except for the hotel's own service chargeable at ridiculously high item rates. There was considerable noise at night from the floor above which was irritating, especially at sleep time.Breakfast was not impressive at all with powdery 'juices',disgusting coffee self-served from an urn, no egg cooking station (hard boiled or scrambled egg from a tray or nothing). Requests for fried or poached eggs were met with a shrug from the one staff present. Long and impatient queues for the old and tired toasting machine - the bread was excellent as was the fruit although it often ran out.
The pool was small and the surroundings not too clean with a few (not enough) old loungers available. The signs there stating the hotel policy of no reserving of loungers was blatantly ignored by some residents and not at all enforced. This bad attitude of the staff was obvious everywhere-a miserable & couldn't care less attitude prevailed. The bar area was depressing with unwelcoming service & hardly ever used by anyone. Of major concern was the total lack of security to the hotel. There was open access to both sides of the hotel,to the gardens, garden rooms & to the hotel grounds generally from the busy street fronting the hotel. Do not bother to eat in the hotel as there are excellent bars & restaurants with superb food and service to suit all tastes & budgets within a few minutes walk. Some on cliff-tops overlooking the beach and with views of glorious sunsets.

Room Tip: If you are security and noise conscious avoid the garden and ground floor rooms.
