We stayed at this place at the weekend just gone (we got back last night). I can't say enough good things about this hotel - it was spotlessly clean, very well maintained and the food was lovely.
The pool is the nicest (if not biggest) hotel pool I have seen as it is so clean - didn't have overpowering chemical smell to it either.
The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you - and the price was about right for what you get. OK, it doesn't have all the frills of a Sheraton, but frankly I don't think it needs them.
Go here if you want a chilled calm and serene stay and generally want to relax. Avoid it if you want the seafront-chaotic-mass-tourism package deal.
Personally I'd go back in a heartbeat!

I absolutely agree with the previous reviewer, "midacre", in everything they said. I would include that we ate our best meal of the whole vacation at this very hotel, in which restaurant they serve delicious regional dishes. I will definitely come back, even if just passing by, I will stop for a nice lunch/dinner. This is a gem for green/rural tourism enthusiasts, who are looking for a calm vacation.

We found this hotel on the internet when we planned to visit Southen Portugal and Spain away from "the madding crowds"
It is new and has only been open 10 months.
Set high above the neighbouring hamlet on the banks of the river, it has commanding views over the river to Spain, on the opposite bank.
The furnishings are of a high standard with plenty of space in the bedrooms. The dining room opens out on to a spacious balcony with small tables and chairs. It also opens out to the swimming pool.
Everything is spotlessly clean. The staff all locals, are very friendly and helpful, supervised on a close basis by the owner/manager.
The nearest town of Alcoutim has a charm of it's own. Eating places are not in abundance but the coast which has many restaurants is not far away. A beautiful area.
Would we go back? Most certainly! In fact we did!
