“Gorgeous spot, great facilities, BIT far from Verona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

Stayed here in the Summer of 09 and it was a gorgeous spot. The hotel sits on lots of land, has two pools, a spa centre, business centre, and the hotel itself has been beautifully renovated with the old villa still retaining lots of its features. My favourite part was the old courtyard and chapel - charming and tiny, and perfect for a small wedding. Have been recommending it to friends ever since. Would stay again if I had the use of a car, as it is at least 20 mins drive from Verona and if I visit the city again I'd like to stay within the city walls.

“From a satisfied guest of this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

This is a beautiful and well-maintained place, very clean and inviting (incl. pool area - attn. bathing caps required). Close to Verona, but unfortunately it is not too close to Lake Garda. Hotel shuttle to Arena di Verona if you want to go to the shows

Very good breakfast selection and friendly service in a nice atmosphere.
Free indoor parking.

I don't think it's near a station or a bus line so you'll need a car to get around and to lake Garda.
As for the wellness area, its opening hours could be better - opens at 10 o'clock and closes at 9.30. If you want to spend the day visiting all the lovely places around and go swimming in the evening, you'll never make it esp. on weekends when it closes at 8 p.m.

Nice Pizzeria with reasonable prizes is within walking distance, "En Bocon" (Menu only in Italian). If you love Seafood, order Spaghetti alla scoglio.

The owners of the Hotel, Tommasi, produce wine and olive oil as well which you could purchase in the hotel or otherwise in the local supermarkets (e.g. Famila in s. Ambrogio). In a neighbour town to Pescantina, Bussolengo, there are quite a few outlet stores (most are closed on Sundays and Mondays).

“good but serious flaws”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2009

I have to endorse most of the previous comments. This is a lovely old place but it is in a (quiet) industrial zone and the bus service is poor - there is no shuttle to anywhere. It is now mainly a conference hotel but this means there are good spa facilities (we were told), though the outdoor pool was still closed. Our room was a suite with historic furnishings and a large, comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge but very poorly designed esp. for older people; there were steep steps, the spa bath and shower were very hard to access, with no handrails, and the floor had no drain. Breakfast was adequate but you had to boil your own eggs and watch your toast as it wasn't automatic.

“Be careful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2008

We just come back from a 2 day stay at the hotel. At the momnet they have a building site there, where they build a new 4 storey builing. You can´t open the windows in all rooms facing the builing site, because the noise starts at 7 am until 6 pm.
It was disappointing that the swimming pool opens at 10 am, because you can´t go for a swim in the mornings. They charge you for the towels and a bathing cap which you must wear in the water. The breakfeast room is far too small for such a hotel and some guests had to wait for a table. Otherwise a typical business hotel with an convention center and a country club.
Bathrooms and airconditioning were o.k. House keeping also.

“Businessman's hotel in the middle of an industrial zone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2007

The hotel photos make it look like a peaceful haven in the midst of lush Italian gardens, conveniently ignoring the industrial zone overlooking it. We booked it because we really wanted to have access to a swimming pool during our stay in Verona for the opera festival.

The rooms
The "deluxe room" we were given smelt of damp, was narrow and worn. Depressed by our surroundings on what was an expensive holiday, we asked to move to a different room. The receptionist would not offer us an alternative, so we asked one of her colleagues the next day. We moved to the annex, which was a much bigger room but highly unexcptional, and with shared terrace overlooking...the industrial zone.

The swimming pool
The swimming pool is part of a country club so is shared by the hotel and the country club members. At the weekend it can get very crowded. To the right is the industrial zone. The newly refurbished health club, which was closed, was quite stunning but would not make up for the disappointment of the hotel.

The breakfast
The ham and cheese provided were cheap lunch pack junk. The cakes were dry. The juices were concentrates and water.

It's the kind of hotel you go for team building work exercises, and in fact that's what it is used for. It is not a peaceful Italian villa, but a run-down disaster that will make its money from uninformed tourists (like ourselves) and discounted corporate events rather than repeat custom.

Total cost, including small rental car, hotel, flight from London and opera tickets for 2 for one week in July - £2,000 (booked on Expedia). Be warned!

  • Disliked — And no internet access in the rooms, despite being a business hotel!
