“Businessman's hotel in the middle of an industrial zone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2007

The hotel photos make it look like a peaceful haven in the midst of lush Italian gardens, conveniently ignoring the industrial zone overlooking it. We booked it because we really wanted to have access to a swimming pool during our stay in Verona for the opera festival.

The rooms
The "deluxe room" we were given smelt of damp, was narrow and worn. Depressed by our surroundings on what was an expensive holiday, we asked to move to a different room. The receptionist would not offer us an alternative, so we asked one of her colleagues the next day. We moved to the annex, which was a much bigger room but highly unexcptional, and with shared terrace overlooking...the industrial zone.

The swimming pool
The swimming pool is part of a country club so is shared by the hotel and the country club members. At the weekend it can get very crowded. To the right is the industrial zone. The newly refurbished health club, which was closed, was quite stunning but would not make up for the disappointment of the hotel.

The breakfast
The ham and cheese provided were cheap lunch pack junk. The cakes were dry. The juices were concentrates and water.

It's the kind of hotel you go for team building work exercises, and in fact that's what it is used for. It is not a peaceful Italian villa, but a run-down disaster that will make its money from uninformed tourists (like ourselves) and discounted corporate events rather than repeat custom.

Total cost, including small rental car, hotel, flight from London and opera tickets for 2 for one week in July - £2,000 (booked on Expedia). Be warned!

“Highly overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2007

I just returned from an easter vacation at this hotel. I stayed there with my girl friend for three nights and really cannot understand the other reviews on this site. I really think that this hotel is highly overrated in special for several reasons:

-Location

The hotel is located very remote from the action in an industrial area about 30 minute from Verona and 20 minutes from Lake Garda. There is no infrastructure close by the hotel, no shops, no restaurants, nothing. You will defenitely need a car when staying there. Also, the hotel is located directly at the highway SS12 which has heavy traffic till late in the night. So be ready for some noise till 1 or 2 AM. We could hardly sleep with an open window.

-Rooms are pretty worn

We had a deluxe room with private jacuzzi which was very large. Unfortunately, the room - especially the matresses- were pretty worn and you felt like sleeping directly on the wood. Both, my girl friend and I had quite some back pain when we woke up in the morning.

-Outdoor pool closed and very dirty, no sun chairs

When we came to the hotel in April the outdoor pool was still closed and not cleaned. There was only some brown and dirty water in the pool. Also, even though it was 25° Celsius and very sunny, there were no sun chairs or any other option to sit in the sun. We had to drive to a different place to enjoy the sun.

To also mention a good side of the hotel: They have recently added a large indoor pool and wellness center with a large gym, 25m swimming pool and three other pools. This is really impressive for a hotel this size. The only anyoing thing is that they make hotel guests pay to rent towels.

I would not go back to this place, there are so many nicer options in the area with far better location, much quiter environment and better kept rooms.

“Peaceful setting near Verona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2006

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in June 2005 for 4 nights. The hotel is located outside of Verona in " Ospedeletto di Pescantina". Good location to explore Lake Garda and Verona. The room was quiet and spacious, the grounds were beautiful and included a large outdoor swimming pool and a spa facliity in a nearby building. The gardens were nice. Although when in Italy , we do not eat at hotel restaurants but this one was special. On a nice evening, eat outside by candlelight and the table is yours all night. The mixed seafood appetizer is incredible with fresh octopus and shrimp. The service is great and friendly. Try the Tomassi wines - Valpollicella Ripasso!

“Gorgeous building, disappointing room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2005

A little out of the way if you're hoping to stay in Verona. Beautiful building with courtyard and even a medieval church within the hotel!

The hotel also has an outdoor pool and a gym.

I ate at the restaurant, which was excellent with attentive, accommodating and attentive staff. The front desk staff were also very good.

The only downside that this hotel had for me was the room. It was tiny, with a sloping roof and a skylight, which meant there was no view at all. The bathroom was also cramped and needed a bit of TLC. I'd be surprised if all the rooms were like that though.

If you are planning on wandering around the surrounding area at all, be aware that it's about a 15 minute walk to the nearest bar/supermarket/pizzeria.

“Lovely old world charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2004

The Villa Quaranta is a most lovely old world italian chateau. Beautifully maintained grounds, pool and buildings. Has a fascinating old church attached to it. Stayed one night this year to attend the opera festival. Had stayed last year as well for one night. Was as impressed the second time around. Excellent breakfast. Look foreward to returning and highly recommed!!
