“A great and enjoyable stay overall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Stayed at VQP with my wife and a friend in a duplex room for 3 nights in December during our wine tour in the Valpolicella region. The decor of the room was classic if a bit dated but everything was clean and well appointed. Air-con was not an issue as the weather was cool. Can bring up the room lighting as it's a bit too dark especially the attic floor.

Breakfast was set in a nice room with sunlight and food selection was adequate by Italian standard - could be even better to offer more choices of eggs.

The outdoor pool was closed for the season but we enjoyed very much relaxing at the indoor heated massage pools. There at the spa my wife had also enjoyed her best therapeutic massage yet in Europe (she likes it very hard - Asian style). The only downsides are - as many have pointed out - that the short opening hours of the spa/pool area and that they charged you for bathrobes and towels. Would be great if they could also provide free WiFi (at least at the reception area if not in all rooms).

We had my wife's birthday dinner at the hotels resturant - Borgo Antico - located in the historical villa. Both food and service were great. At the recommendation of Pierangelo, one of the Tommasi family members, we ordered the gnochetti with black truffles which was really delicious. You should, of course, also enjoy a bottle of the Tommasi wines with the meal.

We had no chance to visit the Villa's wine cellar this time (but we did visited the Tommasi winery not too far away). If the weather had been warmer it would also be great to hang out in the garden and enjoy the outdoor pool. So we have decided to returning soon.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the courtyard so we didn't have the noise issue as reported by some travelle...

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We chose Villa Quaranta as we wanted to stay close to Verona, but not inside the city center. Also we were hoping for a hotel with some modern amenities and the gym, pools, and onsite restaurants seemed appealing. If I had to do it over I would have stayed closer to Verona.

On the plus side, the property grounds are beautiful and well landscaped, the gym has modern equipment and the rooms are clean, but the positives pretty much end there.

We booked a suite, but the room was still quite small, however, the bathroom was quite large. The size of the room was not really an issue for us, but paying a little extra for a suite probably wasn’t worth it. The rooms and furnishings are quite tired and worn. If you want air conditioning you have to ask for it........ every day! Each of our 3 days we had to call the desk and tell them what temperature we wanted. They would then allot us a few hours of a/c. At the gym you have to rent a towel for 2 EUR. I guess I should have brought one from the room. If you want internet, you have to pay for that as well. And you can only log one device on at a time. Breakfast was included in our room rate, but it was low quality. At 279 EUR per night, we expected not to be nickel and dimed at every turn.

About the best way I could describe the property is to compare it to a Best Western. Not that Best Western’s are bad, but we didn’t pay $99 for our room.

“A mix of old and new”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

On our (car) trip around Europe we decided rather late to stay a night in the Valpolicella district. WE researched towns and hotels and it was actually quite difficult to get a full overview. We wanted a 3+ hotel and by the time we did our booking a lot of hotels were full since it was in the middle of the Italian school holidays.

The Quaranta Park is a mix of old and new. It is situated just outside Pescantina - in an area with farming and with factories cutting marble. The main road is dark at night and you cannot walk in to a quaint little Italian village. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful - with a big swimming pool.

The hotel covers a large area. We had a deluxe room which looked out onto a garden. The room was large and comfortable - only problem was with the air conditioning. It was old and noisy - but when we set everything to Low we managed to maintain a temperature around 24/75 while it was 35/95 outside. Our room had an enormous bathroom with Jacuzzi. We were happy with the choice of TV channels (Skybox!!) and the wireless internet worked as it should (does not come free - 4Eur for 4 hours and only 1 person logged on at a time per room).

We had dinner in the villa, - the food was excellent but a bit pricey. We also tried the bar which had a good selection of wines per glass.

We found brochures for the Thommasi Vineyard so we paid them a visit the next day. We were shown around by one of the family - and were really impressed by the cleanliness and also their philosophy towards wine making.

This hotel is an excellent place to stay if you want to use the recreational areas (but do remember to bring your own towel, bathrobe etc or you will be charged for borrowing). Next time we will try to plan ahead of time and find something centrally located in one of the villages or a bed and breakfast out in the countryside.

“Perfect resort to explore Valpolicella”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

This hotel has a dual face, the old and beautiful Villa Quaranta on the one hand and the hyper modern thalasso - business centre on the other hand. It doesn't really harm, but it surprises you when you arrive and don't expect it.
The rooms ( in the old part ) are beautiful and very comfortable, breakfast is really good and the pool is nice but very big. During the weekend it can become very crowded because lots of locals come over to have a swimming and sun bathing afternoon. This can be quite annoying.
We had dinner twice in the villa, and we can certainly recommend doing so, the price is quite high however.

“Wanna-Be Posh Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We tried very hard to come up with some positives about this hotel. It sits in some lovely grounds . . . and that's about it. It seemed as though they were trying to be high-end and posh, but I'm afraid we were not impressed. Our room might have been pleasant in the 1960's, but it was old and dated and situated on the main road so there was constant car and truck noise. We dined at the restaurant one night. Again, the staff tried to be ultra posh, but their efforts were squashed when the smell of manure in a farmer's neighboring field wafted in and turned our stomachs. The ladies at the reception desk were uniformly rude and cold, not even bothering to acknowledge our coming and going. There is what looks like a beautiful pool and fitness center, however the pool was empty and the fitness center had very limited hours. A most disappointing stay.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms situated on the main road.
