stayed for 2 nights in the arabesque suite.lovely room in a lovely old building which has been beautifully restored.suite has its own stone staircase up to the hotel roof,where loungers are provided.when we were there it was 40 degrees;far to hot for sun worshiping;thankfully the air conditioning worked well in the room.ate at the hotel one night which was nice-we seemed to be the only customers but it was romantic to sit out in the courtyard and tuck into our horse steaks! [a local delicacy].
as already noted the staff are very friendly.we had a hire car[garaged at extra 11euro a night] but decided to take the train to lecce.the receptionist had told us the train service south of lecce is hit and miss as they are all local services run on an infrastructure not updated since benitos time!.she was not wrong.however we got there ok in 25 minutes and managed to get back.return journey was a bit fraught however,even the locals were laughing at the train staffs ineptitude.gelatina itself is a nice place to stay for a couple of nights.

We stayed at the Palazzo a week ago. I loved the building and the room itself - it's all based around a nicely converted old palace (as the name suggests). The staff are fantastically accommodating and helpful and the few bits we had for breakfast were good. However, I'd approach this with caution - Galatina is a long way from Lecce which is really where the life is in this dusty corner of Southern Italy - and unfortunately Galatina itself doesn't have a huge amount to recommend it. A must for history lovers - but hire a fast car!

we stayed in the hotel in October 2005. It is a family run high quality, personlised hotel which i would highly recommend. The staff were helpful and attentive and the breakfast was very good.

Our room was lovely, well decorated with real charm. Having researched other hotels in Lecce this one represents the best value for money. It is a 20 min drive from Lecce but Galatina itself is a small, interesting non-touristy town.

I was ill with the flue whilst i was there and the receptionist let us have a late check out until the evening at no extra cost which was much appreciated.

Firstly, we stayed at this hotel by mistake. We wanted to stay in Lecce and as this was listed under Lecce we booked it. It was only a couple of days before we left for Italy that we found that the hotel is in GALATINA about 15 km from Lecce. This made us disappointed, but in the end we were so glad as we found Lecce not as good as we had thought, and Galatina full of character and the real Italy.

We had booked The Bishop`s Suite. This was just to the left of the front door which is tucked down an allley. It consisted of a huge lounge with dining table that sat 4; a bedroom at the back; a former chapel with painted ceiling that contained a chair and stool; a kitchenette; a bathroom with bath.

The building itself is fascinating - created from 18th century buildings of great style and character.

The hotel has a private garage but you have to pay an extra 11 euros per night for this.

We found the staff to be really friendly, helping us with absolutely everything from train information to posting cards for us. The breakfast was superb every day and the hotel-owned restaurant and bar did very good local food and wine at very reasonable prices.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone -and if anyone is interested - yes, we did go to Lecce by train from Galatina for a day. This was an experience in itself and whilst we liked some aspects of Lecce we were so pleased that we had made the mistake and were staying in Galatina instead.
