“Don't stay”

We were a party of 4 adults and six children. The area that the hotel was situated in was not good and we felt a little vulnerable! the hotel itself was basic and certainly didn't resemble the pictures on the website !, the owner however was very nice but we decided not to stay at the hotel and found a much nicer hotel nearer to the airport which was 4 star for the same price.

“great place to stay if you can drive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2010

me and my partner stayed here in october 09. When i booked it was sold to me as rome which it is not. monterontondo is about 20 mins from rome on the train which is no problem, our problem was that the hotel is a 10 min car journey from the train station and there are NO footpaths/ taxis in this town. there is a bus service but it stops at about 7pm every evening. this meant we had to return from the centre of rome at about 6 pm every day meaning we could not enjoy any of the nightlife.

As soon as we arrived at the hotel the owner asked if we had a hire car when we told him neither of us could drive he told us we should try to get our holiday provider change our hotel as we would find it difficult to get about. I found this refreshingly honest but we were unable to change. I take it he has had problems with people being misled by package providers.

He than gave us a bigger room than we were supposed to have as it was empty. It was a massive family room basic and spotless. bathroom was spacious and also spotless. towels replaced daily and the owner is very helpful telling us about buses etc. The breakfast was not good. tatty brakfat room and pre-packaged pastries but it did the job and there is and amazing little bakery down the street if you prefer. As i had paid so little for the holiday i did not really mind. i was less than £450 for both of us flights and hotel for the week.

Turns out staying in monterontondo had many benefits, you do not get ripped of like you do in rome. the food prices are about half here. There is a supermarket just down the street if you need to get some basics which we did due to lost luggage. There is a busy road outside the hotel but we had no problems sleeping (probably due to the amount of wine we had with our evening meal every night)

i would not recommend eating in the restaurant below the hotel as it is very overpriced. It is in no way connected to the hotel. When we told the owner we had eaten there he recommended another restaurant up the hill a bit casa something this place was magnificent, the best food i have ever eaten! generous portions and delicious! We ate here most nights as we couldnt stay in rome past 6 and it kind of worked out for the best as this place was a gem and about half the price of anywhere in rome.

also there is an AMAZING!! pizza shop beside the bus stop. me and my boyfriend got a slice from there almost every day when we came back from rome. it was brilliant.

There is a little bar in the part of monterontondo we stayed in the square which we drank in a few evenings. Great friendly place just as well as this is the only place to go haha. My partner and i were looking for a quiet relaxing holiday and this is exactly what you get here. I found previous reviews saying its not clean to be false. Being in our twenties we would have liked a night out but you will not get it in monterontondo.

also if you flight leaves early in the morning you will need to change hotel for you last night as you wont get there in time. the owner arranged for us to swich to a hotel in ostia nearer the airport. he was really helpful throughout our stay.

Overall great relaxing cheap holiday. i would really recommend staying here if you are hiring a car and looking for a cheap base to explore from. You get what you pay for and i would return.

“Nice & cosy little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2010

Location of hotel its close enough from middle of Rome(about 20’).
Generous size of room with bathroom – cosy, clean and quiet rooms.
Carparking, inside of backyard, inprove a bit of insurance for your car.
Not at the last it’s a little breakfast at the first hour in the morning gave me sensation of home hospitality. Helpfull and very friendly staff!

“OH!”

Well where do I start, the hotel is not the nice rounded building covered with flowers as you see in the photo, it is the buliding you just get a glimpse of to the right of the photo. The rooms are VERY basic, for a quadruple room we had a double bed (2 singles pushed together) 1 single bed and a camp bed, the sheets were clean but all with holes in. The shower basin was broken and we only had hot water on the first night. The breakfast consisted of pre-packaged croissants, pre-packaged biscotti bread, pre-packaged cake and jam. On arrival the staff were informative but then did not really aknowledge we were there. Most of the shops and restaurants in Monterotondo were closed for their anual holidays but we did find a fantastic bar in the square and an amazing pizza place. The staff there were so friendly, this eased the disappointment of the hotel a little.
