We spent two nights here in August 2010 to attend a wedding in Bayrischzell. The Alpenrose was the right place for us to stay.
The room was clean and comfortable. We had a large room on the ground floor. The room had two twin beds pushed together to make one large bed, and a fold-down couch/day bed that our daughter said was the most comfortable hotel bed she has had in a long time. The bed linens were nothing special, but more than adequate. The bathroom was a good size with a tub/shower combination. A shower curtain or half-wall would have helped a little, but we got used to aiming the shower in the right place to keep from getting water everywhere. The room had two chairs and a small table. There was a large open area in the room that seemed to serve no purpose, but the extra open space was appreciated. The room had two large cabinets with shelves and hangers. The TV was small with no remote control, but it wasn't a problem because we preferred to walk around the town instead of watching TV.
The hotel staff, from our perspective, consisted of one person. The proprietor, Stefan, was there when we checked in, was there when we went to breakfast, was there when we had dinner, and was there almost all the time. He was very accommodating to all our requests, but he was the only one we saw. The only downside to this was that the front desk was not always attended if Stefan was working in the restaurant. This may be an off-season situation, only. It wasn't a problem for us, but if the staff is spread thin when the hotel is full, it could be a problem.
There was adequate parking adjacent to the hotel.
The hotel restaurant exceeded all expectations. Not only was the traditional Bavarian food close to excellent, the waitress was friendly and spoke perfect English. The food was so good, in fact, that we ate at the hotel restaurant both nights we stayed there and had no regrets that we had done so. The prices were quite reasonable. Plus, the weather was fantastic both nights we ate there, so we dined on the terrace and enjoyed the view of the town and its surrounding mountains.
Finally, the town is great. We went there for a wedding, but fell in love with the town. In two days, I think we took four or five strolls all around the town just because it is so charming and the view is so nice. Plus, just outside of the little town are biking and hiking trails everywhere. I only wish we had the time to rent bicycles and do some more exploring.
One minor issue: The Internet connection for the hotel was not working. The login page said that the Alpenrose Internet connection is permanently closed. The proprietor said it was a temporary situation, but I am not so sure. Fortunately, the bakery/ice cream shop across the street had Internet access for a reasonable price, so we went there for 1/2 hour just to catch up on e-mail and other things.
Bottom Line: If I find myself in Bayrischzell again, I would not hesitate to stay at the Alpenrose.
