My Family and I have recently returned from a super Skiing trip to Chamonix.
We stayed at the Chris Tal and I must report that we were very pleased with our choice.
The Chris Tal is a friendly, family run Hotel, located in the small Village of Les Houches, just a few miles from Chamonix Town Centre.
We travelled by car, so the journey into town was about 5 minutes, however the Ski Bus stops only about 50 metres from the Hotel anyway !
The beauty of 'Les Houches' is the proximity of the Les Houches Ski Area which is ideal for families or less advanced skiers, but with the possibility of a short Bus ride to some far more challenging runs.
The Village itself boasts a few pleasant restaurants, but if you want night life you need to make the short journey into Chamonix. The trade off, of course, is that 'Les Houches' is far more peaceful and rustic than Chamonix...and far better value.
As for the Hotel, the Rooms are excellent and certainly far larger than most ski hotels we have stayed in. Plenty of sorage space. Well heated. The Bath was much appreciated and the room even has an 'enclosed' balcony.
There is a small swimming pool which looks spotless and a small bar/cafe area as well as a games room for Table Tennis etc.
The Ski room is excellent and well heated.
If you arrive by Car they can even provide a heated garage at a very reasonable surcharge, well worth it in the middle of winter.
The owners were very friendly and helpful and could not have been more charming.
The Breakfast was better than we expected, Plenty of Fruits, Cereals, Fresh Breads and Croissants etc. plus Eggs, Meats and Cheeses, all very fresh and well set out. The coffee is excellent.
Complaints ? None whatsoever, but remember that this is a smaller 'Village' Hotel and not some awful anonymous chain Hotel, However, the Room, food and facilities are genuinely excellent and I don't doubt that we will return.
