My boyfriend, sister and I stayed one night at this hotel on our way into Belgium for Remembrance Day this year, and found it to be good value for the three of us Canadians for 36Euro. We liked the bunk-bed arrangement with the double bed on bottom and single bed up top. Brilliant! The place was very difficult to find with all of the round-abouts, so I would recommend bringing a very detailed map to help find the place. We arrived after the office had closed and were very pleased with the auto-check in (like an ATM machine at the front door) that had our reservation, took our credit card payment, and printed out our room keys. The room had just enough space for the bed, suitcases and desk, and smelled faintly of stale smoke and air freshener. The bathroom was interesting to say the least. It was like the bathroom on a boat, one water tight space that enclosed a sink, toilet, and shower head where the water from the shower could spill over into the rest of the enclosure. The sill on the shower was no more than an inch, so we had to turn the water off a few times during each shower to keep the water from spilling over and flooding the rest of the floor in front of the sink and toilet. The door was flimsy, such that we were talking to each other through the bathroom door as we showered (provided for comical entertainment). We had trouble finding anything to eat after 9:00pm as Roncq is a small town. We would recommend crossing into Belgium to Menin for beers after hours (3km away). The staff clerk the next morning was unable or unwilling to converse with me at my highschool french level and spoke no English, which was the only real frustration. The all-you-can-eat breakfast was very good, featuring fresh wood-fired baguettes with jam and butter, cereal and milk, coffee, hot chocolate, juices, yogurt, applesauce, toast, and tea for just an additional 4.75Euro each. We would stay here again under the same circumstances, and I'd recommend it to anyone travelling through Roncq who is looking for basic accomodations at an incredible price.
