We were booked into Relais Margaux for a family celebration for 2 nights. Having viewed the website and having eaten in the Brasserie a few times I was really looking forward to it but found it very disappointing. I tried to book treatments in the spa some weeks in advance but it was already fully booked so I thought I would just revel in a luxury room and make the most of it. However, the room was more like a commercial travellers overnight stay room than a luxury room. I found it slightly depressing in spite of the glorious sunshine outside. The bathroom was luxurious but the washbasin and bath would not drain away, we informed the hotel on the first morning and they did something to improve the washbasin initially, but by the time it had been used twice it was as bad as before and the bath did not change. I thought that I would have a swim but decided against it when I discovered that it would cost me 30 euros per day for the privilege! The food at the celebration was superb and the breakfats were good but we found that we had been charged for a dinner that we did not have when were checking out . There was no offer of staff to take our luggage or to show us to our room when we checked in or when we checkedout , in spite of the fact that we are getting on a bit. All in all a very disappointing stay for us and we will not consider going back.

Spent a weekend at "Le Relais Margaux"
This is a nice hotel, part of it is new, we stayed in the new part. The room was a nice size, the bathroom was nice also. Don't touch the minibar, prices are stupid.

The staff are very kind and efficient. Didn't try the Spa, as there was no availability, but that was our falt for not booking.
Breakfast was nice, good selection. Dinner one night in "le brasserie" was fine a little expensive, but good food.

There are two small points abouth this hotel... it's quite along way from the small village of Margaux, and in Margaux there is almost nothing to do. To eat out, somewhere good you either have to go to Pauliac (quite a limited selection also) or back into Bordeaux, both take 25 mins...
The second point is the sound proofing in the rooms (or lack of it....) in the new part of the hotel.. you could hear everthing going on in each room either side of ours. We know all about one couples programme for the week, thier stocks and shares etc...

Over all a very nice place to stay, perhaps out of season so it's no so expensive.

In France, there are not much places like Relais Margaux. Location is fantastic you can really walk to Chateau Margaux, it would take you 10-15 minutes however for wine lovers looking for exclusive place to stay, Relais Margaux Hotel is really charming.

Visiting the property through a hotel golf car, was great and we could appreciate the beauty of the site.

Rooms are deco in a classic way respecting architecture of the place. Spa is at the level of those top therapists / beauty centre in Asia and Middle East. Staff is extremely caring on what products to take in regards to skin, and not always what most expensive to take and this is probably due to specific trainings.

Brasserie is great with large view on the Golf area. If you go for a weekend you should really drive around, first inside magnificent "route des chateaux", then if you have time i would suggest to go to Arcachon. We were recommended by their staff, to try "Cafe de la Place", which was a great choice. A typical french brasserie with great style and great dishes.

The Spa at Relais Margaux is definitely a must, and if i was living in France i would go at least 2 times in the year, for a fresh break minded.

The front of house staff were welcoming , but there the luxury ended. The hotel is an unashamed money making venture, The room was in serious need of a makeover, and the restaurant was poorly run and had even run out of Margaux wines! I wanted a swim after my long drive, and was charged 30euros for the privilege. The leisure centre consisted of a postage stamp pool with some wave makers up one side, and a waft of aromatherapy. If I had wanted to use it the following morning before departing, I would have had to spend a further 30 euros.
For a hotel of this alleged class, everything was extra, from the extortionate rates for internet access to use of hotel bicycles.
I would advise anyone visiting the vineyardsof Bordeaux to make a wide detour of this undesirable property.
