First let me start off by addressing some of the other reviews in here. If you have never been to Central America before, and speak no Spanish, this is NOT the place for you. I find it to be quite arrogant that people admonish the locals for not speaking a foreign tongue. You are in their country. Learn some basic spanish and bring a phrasebook with pictures.
Also, because it is by the beach, with the jungle next to it, there is no hot water (you won't need it). They only change the linens every few days. I didn't really care.
However, if none of these are a concern, this is the perfect little spot to get away from it all. The place (to my knowledge) has no tv, internet, or available phone service; cell service is spotty. I recommend just turning it off and enjoying the sound of the ocean.
Pros:
- The staff are excellent, accomodating, and warm people. The accomodations are clean and simple.
- No tourists! :-)
- It is one of the few chances to see the "real" central america
- Except for weekends, it is mostly quiet, with the occasional sounds from the villiage
-The beach around the corner (go out back, through the misc shops and follow the path) called playa del amor is pretty much desserted and is great for snorkeling in the tidal pools when the tide is low. The beach in front of the hotel is not intended for swimming.
- There are quite a few walking paths and interesting footbridges about. Walk around, listen to the birds, absorb nature. You will appreciate the solitude and being away from tourists and other travelers.
- Pure water and basic sundries are readily available at the little shops in the villiage, although selection is very limited
Cons:
- I read someplace that there are refrigerators in the rooms, there are none. Forget about bringing cheese or other perishables
- too many children around, especially on weekends (I find children in general to be annoying as hell anyway)
- If you are staying beyond the weekend, you should bring snacks with you. I am vegetarian, and damn near starved to death. The only available food outside of weekends is at the golf course restaurant, a ten minute walk from the hotel (ask the staff). It is located beyond where the group of signs are where you make a left to go toward the hotel. Instead, go straight, at the first road/path turn right, you will see it on your left after approx 150 meters. Just tell the guy at the entrance that you want to eat at the restaurant.
