“Wonderfully Relaxing”

First let me start off by addressing some of the other reviews in here. If you have never been to Central America before, and speak no Spanish, this is NOT the place for you. I find it to be quite arrogant that people admonish the locals for not speaking a foreign tongue. You are in their country. Learn some basic spanish and bring a phrasebook with pictures.

Also, because it is by the beach, with the jungle next to it, there is no hot water (you won't need it). They only change the linens every few days. I didn't really care.

However, if none of these are a concern, this is the perfect little spot to get away from it all. The place (to my knowledge) has no tv, internet, or available phone service; cell service is spotty. I recommend just turning it off and enjoying the sound of the ocean.

Pros:

- The staff are excellent, accomodating, and warm people. The accomodations are clean and simple.

- No tourists! :-)

- It is one of the few chances to see the "real" central america

- Except for weekends, it is mostly quiet, with the occasional sounds from the villiage

-The beach around the corner (go out back, through the misc shops and follow the path) called playa del amor is pretty much desserted and is great for snorkeling in the tidal pools when the tide is low. The beach in front of the hotel is not intended for swimming.

- There are quite a few walking paths and interesting footbridges about. Walk around, listen to the birds, absorb nature. You will appreciate the solitude and being away from tourists and other travelers.

- Pure water and basic sundries are readily available at the little shops in the villiage, although selection is very limited

Cons:
- I read someplace that there are refrigerators in the rooms, there are none. Forget about bringing cheese or other perishables

- too many children around, especially on weekends (I find children in general to be annoying as hell anyway)

- If you are staying beyond the weekend, you should bring snacks with you. I am vegetarian, and damn near starved to death. The only available food outside of weekends is at the golf course restaurant, a ten minute walk from the hotel (ask the staff). It is located beyond where the group of signs are where you make a left to go toward the hotel. Instead, go straight, at the first road/path turn right, you will see it on your left after approx 150 meters. Just tell the guy at the entrance that you want to eat at the restaurant.

Room Tip: Of the two balcony rooms, only one has a view (the one on the same side as the pool), the one I stay...

“Loved it... great place”

We had the chance to spend a nice and quiet weekend over there. The staff really attended us very well and the food was perfect.

The place had just re open from recent renovation and provide us all we needed for a nice and romantic weekend. We did really enjoy the walk on the beach and to help releasing some baby turtles as their is Foundation active in the village that do protect turtles and the protected reserved.

The people had made our stay amazing...

“Just O.K.”

We went there last year, and were lucky enough to be the only guests, which was great since the place is quite small. The room we got was nicely decorated and had a cute balcony to lounge in. We really didn't like the fact that the hotel sits in the middle of a fisherman town. I know some people find this really charming, but the fact is, the beach was impossible to walk on because of dog droppings, empty cans of soda, and people tie their fishing boats to their houses, so not only do you have to watch your step with the above mentioned but with the ropes! you can actually trip and fall if you aren't really careful! The beach is rocky so you can't really go for a swim there...

BUT! let's get back to the hotel...the manager was helpful at first, but we could tell he and his wife were annoyed when we discovered there was a complimentary breakfast included in the hotel price and on our last day he kept reminding us to leave on time, I don't know what type of customers he's dealt with before, but I can tell you, we are very respectful people and we always make sure to leave on time, however, I imagine he didn't want to take his chances with us and ended up making us feel he wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible...NOT nice.

All in all, it was a decent stay, but we'd never visit again! I don't mind all inclusive hotels, so next time, we'll probably go with the popular Decameron...let's see what happens next time!

Room Tip: You should probably just stay somewhere else...

“Bad neighboards, terrible administration”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

When we first got there, the next room's neighboards were smoking a lot and playing loud musica which lasted up to 2 a.m., although there is a no smoking sign in every room. Mosquitoes were all over the place, they bit us everywhere even though we used tons of repellent, apparently they don't fumigate much. The rooms smelled, they had no soap or shampoo, and only two towels, they don't clean your room or change tour towels or sheets. Location provides nice contact with the locals which is really good, and within a short walking distance there is this beautiful little beach you can go swim and watch marine life, very nice. Apparently there is only one person that does it all, only a middle age kind man helps you with everything. Place is not inexpensive, rates at $79, and the don't even give you a proper invoice. Location nice, place awful.

Room Tip: For the best room there, go stay somewhere else

“Great Diving weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

person found this review helpful

I loved the place. We stayed for 2 nights for a diving trip to Los Cobanos. The hotel is very small, located in the middle of a fisherman beach. We enjoyed the 6 dives in Los Cobanos Reef, visiility 20 feet, and we saw a lot of fish. Staff were really nice and accomodating. Rooms are spacious, simple and clean! Just what we needed. Food was good and the staff was simply great!!!! Next to the hotel there is a wonderful beach called La playa del Amor.
