“When you find what you are looking for you stop looking”

My son and I are disabled travelers and have gone to this resort for 2 weeks at a time for 11 years now, we are treated like family and, in fact a lot of memories here are of meeting other families from around the world and Mexico.
If you are looking for a party resort, this one is low key, more for families and geared to quiet private beach and mountain views.

Room Tip: corner rooms have big balcony and lots of privacy

“Perfect Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Hotel - the hotel was built in 1985 I believe so it is older .I would say the hotel has a rustic charm to it .It is kept very clean .I don't think there is a bad room in the place ,though we upgraded to a junior suite just for the room size and beach front view .Big deck and nothing but ocean in front of you .We found all staff to be friendly .The hotel was occupied probably 80 % Mexicans and the rest Canadians .There was a contingent of Russians and Hungarians there doing a reality show up the coast but staying at the hotel.
The hotel offers two free tours ,mangrove boat ride and horse ride on the beach. Both were great.
Food - we found the food great .Can't really complain about one meal .Never got bored of it either.
Pool and Beach - we hung out in the pool area most of the week and played in the surf a few times a day .The pool is heated and very comfortable .Only thing we noticed is we hung out at the pool bar one afternoon and my wife and I got out to go to the bathroom at least 3 times and no one else did.yuk.The pool seemed cleaner some days over others but never anything to complain about .They do work on the pool every morning so there is no lack of maintenance.
The beach rivals any beach any where. It is just massive and so few people it is like you have it to yourself .We wore our sandals in the water as there are little rays in ankle deep water you need to watch for .There were no incidents when we were there .The beach and the scenery is just beautyifull .
We did two snorkeling ,fishing trips out of the resort and they charge 1500 pesos for 4 hours or so .We did it twice because it is quite cheap for what you get .We snorkeled ,caught a few fish ,saw whales ,dolphins and turtles each time .Amazing .
We went to La Manzanilla for there market day .40.00 round trip and the driver will wait .60.00 round trip to Melque if someone wants to do that.Loved the town of La Manz. ,the market was good and for 1dollar you can walk through the ponds on board walks where they have these monstrous crocs .Pretty neat .In La Manz we had lunch at a Taco truck near the crocs.. Looks like a white bread or milk truck ,i forget the name of it ,but we only saw one.The owner spoke very good english and it was the best fish tacos we ever had .
The highlight of the week for my wife may have been we had the opportunity twice to release baby turtles .This was pretty neat. They did 4 releases while we were there at about 75 turtles per release .But when you have a humpback whale 20 feet from your panga ,thats pretty tough to beat to .
We did walk the beach and have lunch one afternoon at La Vena restuarant .Simply amazing .All seafood items.
The whole experience was really great and after day 5 my wife asked if we were coming back in march.
Money ,don't bring american money .Just bring pesos and your debit card . You will just loose money in the exchange process.

Room Tip: 8 end rooms at north end of rooms have nothing but beach in front of them.

“Very pretty view but the rooms poor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

no fridge no clock some biting bugs that really put a damper on your holiday. I would say over 25% of the people had bug bites and so lots of red spots and people scatching. I would not go back!!

“Excellent trip-paradise in Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Staff were wonderful, beach was outstanding, was very pleased when staff changed the music at the request of guests, and lowered the volume. Nice to have Mexican families with their children staying at the resort. Swimming one of the best we've had over our many trips. Swim shoes recommended though as a few sting rays were spotted. Food was decent, a la carte restaurant was excellent (Note you can take 4 people on your ticket, find friends!) you can walk to La Manzania, doable in around 2 hours should you feel the need, taxi only the other option. Overall a great trip, would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view but no elevator. (Only 4 floors though!)

“Very Far from Anything AND Not That Great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I normally don't pay much attention to what others say (as some people expect WAY too much for the price they are paying), however in this case, I would definitely heed the advise posted on Trip Advisor.

We are not "hoitey toitey" people and have very average standards when we go to other countries, however I believe this resort is slightly below average and the location sucks.

RESORT:
-Nice large rooms
- Resort was 1/2 empty and they only offered an upgrade for $50/day (too much for the quality of resort you are getting)
-Beds VERY hard (we doubled up the mattresses to make it more comfortable)
-found dead cockroaches on the stairs (at least they were dead)

POOL:
- pool is VERY NICE and uniquely designed/shaped
- swim up bar is great but lines were always long
- bartender "Eric" totally ripped us off after giving him a 200 peso tip ($20 equivalent) **give a tip for each drink...not a tip for the day or week as they quickly forget you gave them anything an hour before

BARS:
- only one bar opened in the evening
- beach bar closes early

ENTERTAINMENT:
- sub-standard entertainment but they worked hard

BEACH:
- long secluded beach - nice sand
- water very rough and full of jelly fish (many people got stung while we were there)
- for the first time EVER, I never entered the ocean on a vacation

FOOD:
- buffet below average
- buffet not a great selection
- a la carte was AWESOME. If you can eat there every night, DO THAT
- a la carte service and food was unbelievable....definitely highlite of the holiday
- no English spoken by serving staff

LOCATION:
- awful - there is NO PLACE to walk to (other than up and down the beach)
- nothing to do there (bring lots of books)
- 100 pesos to get to the highway
- 220 pesos to get to the nearest town (La Manzanilla)
- 300+ pesos to get to Melaquie or Bara Navadid

SERVICE:
- very little English spoken

Room Tip: Do not get a room facing the pool (even though the view is better). All rooms have an ocean view so...
