Hotel - the hotel was built in 1985 I believe so it is older .I would say the hotel has a rustic charm to it .It is kept very clean .I don't think there is a bad room in the place ,though we upgraded to a junior suite just for the room size and beach front view .Big deck and nothing but ocean in front of you .We found all staff to be friendly .The hotel was occupied probably 80 % Mexicans and the rest Canadians .There was a contingent of Russians and Hungarians there doing a reality show up the coast but staying at the hotel.
The hotel offers two free tours ,mangrove boat ride and horse ride on the beach. Both were great.
Food - we found the food great .Can't really complain about one meal .Never got bored of it either.
Pool and Beach - we hung out in the pool area most of the week and played in the surf a few times a day .The pool is heated and very comfortable .Only thing we noticed is we hung out at the pool bar one afternoon and my wife and I got out to go to the bathroom at least 3 times and no one else did.yuk.The pool seemed cleaner some days over others but never anything to complain about .They do work on the pool every morning so there is no lack of maintenance.
The beach rivals any beach any where. It is just massive and so few people it is like you have it to yourself .We wore our sandals in the water as there are little rays in ankle deep water you need to watch for .There were no incidents when we were there .The beach and the scenery is just beautyifull .
We did two snorkeling ,fishing trips out of the resort and they charge 1500 pesos for 4 hours or so .We did it twice because it is quite cheap for what you get .We snorkeled ,caught a few fish ,saw whales ,dolphins and turtles each time .Amazing .
We went to La Manzanilla for there market day .40.00 round trip and the driver will wait .60.00 round trip to Melque if someone wants to do that.Loved the town of La Manz. ,the market was good and for 1dollar you can walk through the ponds on board walks where they have these monstrous crocs .Pretty neat .In La Manz we had lunch at a Taco truck near the crocs.. Looks like a white bread or milk truck ,i forget the name of it ,but we only saw one.The owner spoke very good english and it was the best fish tacos we ever had .
The highlight of the week for my wife may have been we had the opportunity twice to release baby turtles .This was pretty neat. They did 4 releases while we were there at about 75 turtles per release .But when you have a humpback whale 20 feet from your panga ,thats pretty tough to beat to .
We did walk the beach and have lunch one afternoon at La Vena restuarant .Simply amazing .All seafood items.
The whole experience was really great and after day 5 my wife asked if we were coming back in march.
Money ,don't bring american money .Just bring pesos and your debit card . You will just loose money in the exchange process.
Room Tip: 8 end rooms at north end of rooms have nothing but beach in front of them.
