From the airport at purto plata it took 1 hour 10 mins by transfer to get to the hotel. Not a bad trip. The hotel has been bought by another company called Hotasa. The overall complex is very nice with three pools. An activy pool, main pool and relaxing pool. The staff are very friendly and if you have any problems with your room it will be fixed. We had televison trouble and they came out and sorted it.
The animation team are friendly and will ask you if you want to join in, they also do the evening entertainment which for such a big hotel let it down a bit. They could do with a local singer/singers doing tour of the hotels once a week. Don't get me wrong they did try their hardest. They do quite a lot of auddiance particapation which is funny.
It does get busy on the weekend with the locals coming to stay but nothing to busy, we were there on the local bank holiday so it was very busy, but we still managed to eat well and get to to bar without lenghty waits.
The beach is well looked after but you can only swim in the far end of the beach by the beach bar due to sea hedgehogs. But again there is plenty of room for everyone.
The hotel could do with some tender loving care, it is looking a bit tired and a lick of paint would do it the world of good. The gardens are well looked after and they have ducks, peacocks and turkeys roaming around.
The rooms are basic the maids do a good job cleaning everyday and changing the towels and bed linen daily.
The food was good lots of choose from. They do put on some local dishes but it is a good mix of various dishes. We always found something good to eat. The desserts where plentyful and very tasty.
The hotel is located a distance from the other hotels and if there is not enough people booked for trips the companys will not travel to come and pick yopu up. You will have no problem getting to Paradise Island as the companys have to come past thr hotel to get to it. And do go on it, it is fantastic if you like snorkling over a reef. Even if you don't snorkel it is very shallow around the island and children and not so stronger swimmers will feel quite safe. While a guide can take the others out to the reef and feed the fish. If you do fancy this trip take an underwater camara, on the island they charge $22 and thomas cook charge$12, i'm sure you can get them cheaper in your own country.
I was concerend reading the reviews on here, but i really don't think its thats bad.
Enjoy it you are in paradise what more could you want..................
