“Don't believe to many negatives”

This was our first trip to the dominican republic and one we were very excited about as the word "Caribbean " automatically gets you excited! Was not till we got there did we realise it was the Atlantic ocean part of the island and the sea was that cold and filthy that swimming was certainly a no!!! .....however the pools were great and always guaranteed a sunbed even on the weekend when the locals arrived enuff masse!! ....some of the reviews about the locals are unfair as the only issue is meal times when they all rush and its totall chaos! ..pushing in when they want, grabbing food by the handful with hands!! And are very rude and bad mannered! But on complex there was no issue aside from rowdy kids! But this only happens on weekends ......the hotel is very basic and plain but has lovely grounds and set in good space ...the rooms were extremely basic and poor decor and some dry rot! But as most of the time is spent outdoors then this is not a major issue! ...some good trips are available, and staff were fantastic! Be warned you will get constantly hassled by the beach vendors that follow you everywhere!! ....it's not an awful place nor a dive but would stay somewhere else if went back to Dominican.

Lovely Island but would not stay at Hotel Luperon or use Thomas Cook again, the buildings at the hotel need a lot of maintenance, the food choice is ok however the standard of cooking is not brilliant even in the a la carte restaurants. Sometimes your room doesnt get cleaned til late in the day and even then you may be left with so called clean towels but when you un roll them they are marked or in some cases we had them with blood stains! I feel very let down, we had to un plug the fridge in the room it is a large fridge for just 2 bottles of water which they expect you to keep for your entire stay and keep refilling. The relax pool bar was only opened at the weekend when the locals came in, and the beach bar didn't always have cups to serve drinks etc. Entertainment was dull at times and was done by the same staff every night, too many delays between entertaining the kids and the so called adult entertainment. If I didn't know there were better resorts on the Island it would of put me off returning. Save a little more money and choose Gran Ventana or even Riu Mambo much better staff and service overall and you would get what you pay for. Thomas Cook I feel let everyone down by allowing this hotel to be used and the Tropical part of the name is no longer valid as that part has closed down. Please note some of the buildings on the site were cordened off as collapsing, the place was taken over by new owner in 2009 and they don't believe in investing in the place some areas just need a good paint job other parts need good building repairs. If you take young children be warned they naturally love to explore there are many hidden dangers in the grounds.

“Needs some t.l.c but overall not bad”

From the airport at purto plata it took 1 hour 10 mins by transfer to get to the hotel. Not a bad trip. The hotel has been bought by another company called Hotasa. The overall complex is very nice with three pools. An activy pool, main pool and relaxing pool. The staff are very friendly and if you have any problems with your room it will be fixed. We had televison trouble and they came out and sorted it.
The animation team are friendly and will ask you if you want to join in, they also do the evening entertainment which for such a big hotel let it down a bit. They could do with a local singer/singers doing tour of the hotels once a week. Don't get me wrong they did try their hardest. They do quite a lot of auddiance particapation which is funny.
It does get busy on the weekend with the locals coming to stay but nothing to busy, we were there on the local bank holiday so it was very busy, but we still managed to eat well and get to to bar without lenghty waits.
The beach is well looked after but you can only swim in the far end of the beach by the beach bar due to sea hedgehogs. But again there is plenty of room for everyone.
The hotel could do with some tender loving care, it is looking a bit tired and a lick of paint would do it the world of good. The gardens are well looked after and they have ducks, peacocks and turkeys roaming around.
The rooms are basic the maids do a good job cleaning everyday and changing the towels and bed linen daily.
The food was good lots of choose from. They do put on some local dishes but it is a good mix of various dishes. We always found something good to eat. The desserts where plentyful and very tasty.
The hotel is located a distance from the other hotels and if there is not enough people booked for trips the companys will not travel to come and pick yopu up. You will have no problem getting to Paradise Island as the companys have to come past thr hotel to get to it. And do go on it, it is fantastic if you like snorkling over a reef. Even if you don't snorkel it is very shallow around the island and children and not so stronger swimmers will feel quite safe. While a guide can take the others out to the reef and feed the fish. If you do fancy this trip take an underwater camara, on the island they charge $22 and thomas cook charge$12, i'm sure you can get them cheaper in your own country.
I was concerend reading the reviews on here, but i really don't think its thats bad.
Enjoy it you are in paradise what more could you want..................

“Look at Luperon Beach resort review - they are the same place - not good!!!”

Myself and my partner booked this hotel and were not aware that there are two resorts in one here. Look at the Luperon Beach resort on Trip Advisor reviews and you will see that this twin resort is a nightmare. My review is wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy. This was our first holiday together and it was a nightmare. It was so bad that I have written a complaint letter to Thomas Cook (as well as 16 other people) to demand a refund. We were intimidated/threatened, sick due to uncooked food, facilities stated on Thomas Cook brochure and website are not true and to top things off the waterfall pool was full of urine and feaces compliments of the locals. Go here at your peril!!!
