“Mixed bag”

We stayed for two weeks with our 2 year old in Nov '10. There were several very good points and quite a few bad ones.
First the plusses:
- The villa layout is good with 2 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms with separate shower.
- We had a villa next to the Golf course which was the best location with nice views we thought. (If you stay make sure you get a villa that is well situated since there are a few which have no privacy and the road as the view. )
- The golf facilities were accessible and the pros gave useful lessons, at least for us with moderate skill level... However the course is short (par 67) and some of the wholes feel slightly crammed; It's not a course that you could play several times a week if you're a decent golfer.
- The sports facilities were overall excellent - (Cycling, Wind surfing, Catamarans, Tennis, Swimming etc.)
- Complementary WIFI in the villas worked great.
- The pool heating, once swithched on, worked great.
The bad:
- The food in the hotel restaurants were of poor quality, even if compared to Fuerteventura standards...This goes for the buffet restaurants (except deserts which were good) and the the à la carte places close to the sports center. At the pools bars the food was not fit for consumption.
- Individual staff were mostly friendly, BUT the management must be bordering on incompetant. Several evenings there was chaos in the buffet restaurants with cutlery missing and some food stations left empty for long periods for the simple reason that the staff were not organised and did not seem to have a clear division of tasks. The procedure to reserve sports equipment, etc. required you to run back and forth between different receptions hundreds of metres apart for no apparant reason.
- My mother in law booked a massage, but when she turned up for the appointment the masseuse said her hands hurt os she could not perform the treatment. No other masseuses were on duty at that point so it had to be cancelled. In spite of this the hotel wanted to charge the full amount for the massage(!). After we sorted out the matter with reception by phone, the hotel sent a letter for us to sign which would, they told us, solve the matter and no charge would be added. The only problem was that the letter, in Spanish stated that my mother in law was liable to pay the full amount. I guess they tried to pull a fast one on us assuming we didn't speak the Spanish.
Overall, I would recommed this place only if you want to take advantage of the sports facilities and either intend to be self-catering or don't mind taking the car (or walking) every day to outside restautants of which there is a limited choice.

I've just returned from a week at the Playitas Resort Hotel.....Excellent. Clean, Spacious, active resort. I was one of only a handful of Brits there, not a problem. I'm taking my sons there in December. Fantastic!!

“Active holidays resort for the entire family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

The villas situated around the perimeter of the golf course are great bases for several generation. Fine interiors and great private pool area. And the resorts sport facilities and instructors are of high standard. Good local restaurants in nearby village. Hard to find anything to improve. Perhaps kindergarten not only in german.

“Lovely resort for a relaxing holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

Resort is great and is well maintained. Activities for the sporty are arranged (free) each day like step arobics or spinning and although mainly a "german" hotel all the classes were in english! Everyother night a small entertainment is laid on in the bar which normally lasts 1 hour. We had a snake man act and ABBA mania act... so you get the idea. We stayed in the Villas which have there own private pool and these are great. You have everything in them, a washing machine & dryer, coffee machine, kettle ect . They are very quite and we heard absolutely no noise at night (which is what we like). Tv is limited to only 2 channels ( in English) BBC world news and Sky Sports. The food buffet is good quality and plenty of variety. We stayed 2 weeks and it was always different each night.

The only downsides were 1- Reception staff not very good. We arrived very late at night and the girl on the desk was not very helpful. She took ages to process our passports (which we found out later she still did wrong as we could not charge items to our room and this had to be corrected) . She also did not give us or tell us about the HIRE Card. You give a deposit of 30Euros (which you get back at the end) and this allows you to hire the bats or ping pong or crazy golf ect as many times as you like. Then when we found the Villa she had programmed in the wrong hotel room number so it would not work. Luckily a maintenence man was nearby and he let us in with his pass key and went back to reception ( which is half a kilometre away) to sort it out for us. This is not a good first impression and at 11pm at night with 2 young very tired children it was the last thing we needed.
2- The info on the villas (from the website we booked with) states that the villas have aircon and a heated pool but we found out eventually, as we could not get the aircon to work (again as the reception staff were poor in this area of information) that you could only have one of these not both. Our villa had been set up for the heated pool option and once we got this changed over the aircon worked fine. I have looked at the LAS Platitas website and it is not clear that you can only have one of these options which I think is poor considering how much you are paying for them!

Apart from these 2 things the rest of the holiday was lovely and the resort has plenty for adults and kids to do during the day. The staff doing the activities are fantastic and that includes the KIDS CLUB. The staff in the Buffet restaurant are also very good and work very well in clearing tables, taking drink orders ect. You never have to wait, it is very slick! The resort has lovely gardens and all the hotel areas are spotless.

Great for families with younger kids (under 12) or sporty types.

“14 days with 9 mth old boy and sport recreation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2010

nice resort with sport facilities. Choose the buffet at the hotel or walk to the nearby las playitas (500 meter) where you get good seafood.
We rented a medium size car for 14 days at the price of 300 €, which saved us the cost of transfer, and made it a lot easier to shop in the nearby Gran trarajal.
You have to bring you own pushchair or pram, witch indeed is funny when you are at a family complex.
