“Room for improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

person found this review helpful

As you approach Reception you enter a modern newly refurbished environment.
When you go towards your apartment you then leave the “newness” for a long dingy corridor, poorly signposted which takes you to your appointed BLOCK.

Room assigned was poorly indicated and had a Coke Cola machine humming outside of it.

Spacious apartment but was not until going to bed that we realised we could hear the drone of the air-conditioning plant across from the car park.

Plenty of wardrobe space but no drawers

Why does the hot water have to be scalding?

Had to really bang the entrance door hard to close it from both inside and outside

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor

“Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

We booked the hotel through an internet website. They gave us a 1 bedroom apartment.
when we arrived there we were positively surprised from the modern hall and the quick check in operations, but that was about it.
The room was miles away from the concierge, the elevator (last maintenance check probably made in the late 70's) didnt work and when we opened the door, we found our room again furnished with old pieces of furniture from the 70's and an incredible smell of a palce which had been closed for years! not to mention the smell of smoke (non smoking room) in the small bedroom.
The bathroom didnt look very clean, with some hair on the floor from the previous visitors and the kitchen wasnt in the best condition either. Overall the cleaningness of the resort is very bad and it's certainly not the one you would expect from a 4 star resort. .
The outdoor pool area is cheap looking and not very clean either, with concrete and rotten tiles all over the place.
The worst part of the experience was the buffet. The quality of the food is really , really bad. Expecially the breakfast is made up of discount like jams and corn flakes, undrinkable coffee from automatic machines, cold and grey looking slices of ham and second hand look alike cakes. No croissants, no fresh cakes, no fresh nothing.
We had problems with the concierge on our last day because, as they promised us, having booked the room on the web we were entitled to a late check out, so that we went back to the room at 2 ans we found it locked. we had to go back 3 times to the concierge before they ficxed the problems, and with the elevators not working and the disctance this was a real problems and not a pleasant experience. They eventually fixed the problems (not a word of excuse) but the day after we found out they charged us an additional 20 euros for the late check out!!! unbelievable.
long story short, NOT a 4 STAR HOTEL, SERVICE VERY VERY BAD, FOOD 1 star, CLEANINGNESS 1 STAR

“Depressing dated apartment - poor value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2009

By anyone's standard, 110 euros a night is not cheap for accomodation in Spain and that is what we paid to stay in this dreary place. On arrival it took 30 minutes - yes 30 minutes to check us in. The dozy desk clerk then sent us to our apartment with an electronic key. The apartment was a fair walk from the reception and when we got to the apartment we found that the lock on the door was a key - not credit card type. I had to walk all the way back and then found that she had only given me the credit card key for the electricity within the apartment - not the key to the door - no apology for the mistake of course. The patched up scars on the door caused by somebody obviously trying to break in with a jemmy did not bode well. Potential guests should note that security is very lax in this complex - anyone can walk in off the street and into the apartment block via a door onto the street through the pool area. Inside the apartment the decor and furnishings were original pure 70s - dark dismal and depressing. The shower had to be held by hand as the attachment to hold it on the wall was broken. The cleaning staff seemed efficient and kept the place clean but our towels were not changed once during our 6 night stay - this is totally unacceptable for a place charging 110 euros a night. The swimming pool area is very uninviting surrounded by a horrible concrete jungle and the water looked murky and greasy. The lift did not work for the last two days of our holiday and we had to drag our cases down flights of stairs. There seemed to be much better places in Roquetas to stay than this dump and I would advise anyone against booking here unless you are only paying dirt cheap prices like some previous reviewers paid and are on a tight budget. Roquetas itself is a pleasant resort - plenty of cafes/bars in the evening and a lovely beach - never crowded even in August. The holidaymakers were nearly all Spanish with a few British Dutch and Germans as well. The British seemed to be nice families - no drunks etc.. its not that kind of resort. There were some grim 'British' bars in the resort - e.g M25 & Y Da Wakes (??) God knows why anyone would want to sit in them when there are so many pleasant places to go. Needless to say they were virtually empty each night we passed - don't know how they can survive. We would go back to Roquetas but would stay in one of the nice hotels like the Sabinal which is in a better part of the resort anyway. By the way we booked our transfer from Almeria airport with Shuttle Direct - their service was excellent - would highly recommend them.

“4 Staar Facilities 2 Star Rooms very basic view of concrete jungle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2009

I booked on an offer price - advertising 35 euro per night, reduced from 110 euro. 35euro is reflective of the value - so was disappointed. The old adage you get what you ay for is true. So good enough if you are on a budget and want to overlook a conceret jungle. Reception is impressive, outdoor pool and surrounding area large and nice, but indoor pool very poor. Room, frankly, was depressing.
Checked out after 1 hour
