“if it was free we would not go to this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2009

The woman on reception was rude and most definately did not like english people. The rooms were not cleaned properly and the food (The last time we had food like that was in 1986 in Bulgaria. Totally inedible and after 7.00pm there was nothing left to eat.
The crockery was dirty and chipped, however the waiters were helpful.
Guests and staff were totally abusing the no smoking signs therefore we could not sit anywhere in the hotel in the evening except our own rooms. Also there was no English channels on the TV. What does that tell you. To call it a restaraunt is an insult to a transport cafe.English people dont waste your hard earned money on this 2*hotel !!!!!! This hotel is tops!!!!!! situated in a very clean and upmarket part of almeria we went for a weekend may 11th-13th, 5 of us, girlie getaway (hen weekend). Really didn't know what to expect. From the time we walked thourgh the door till we left i have no compliants. All the staff were friendy and helpful. Concidering, although we were not a rowdy bunch, i dont think they were expecting a hen weekend.
the hotel overall is stunning!!
we had breakfast and dinner, which was excellent and of great variety considering i'm a fussy vegetarian and still managed to find something i liked.
The rooms were very clean and spacious and better than described. views froom balcony were great.
swiming pool was great bit cold but the heated pool was next to it enclosed, which was like a hot bath!
plenty of space round the pool.
if you walk out the back entrance to the hotel your staight on the beach. Although beach was a bit stoney, very clean with loungers for hire.
Although we went out of season the weather was great, and the outside bars were very friendly and very accomadating a group of girls dressed 4 a hen party.

The web site i saw this on did not do it justice! go to there own site and what you see is what you get.
I will probably have my hen weekend there next year!
would like to go back for a longer stay.

“disappointing”

This Hotel is actually very nice, but definitely not 4 Star. Rooms are clean and spacious, as are all of the public areas, and the pool area. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The problem with this hotel is , the Food and the Restaurant Staff
The food is very poor. At Breakfast it was difficult to get a table - not because there were none available - simply because the used tables are not cleared - it looks like a bombsite. We had to clear and set our own table. Staff in the restaurant were totally disinterested. Food on offer was obviously there since start of breakfast, poor quality, poor choice, and lukewarm Dinner was even worse.
On two occasions, at Dinner, we were asked if we would like something to drink - just as we were finishing desert.

  • Liked — Good size, clean room
  • Disliked — Very poor food and bad restaurant service

“Lovely Serena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2006

I've used tripadvisor before booking a few of my holidays and have found it really useful so I thought it was about time I made a contribution. We were rather apprehensive about booking a holiday to Spain as all we could think about was drunken people staggering down the street (as you see on TV). We were so pleasantly surprised when we arrived in Almeria. Everyone on the flight was lovely-mostly families and very decent people. Roquestas De Mar is a fabulous resort-quite quiet in fact for a bank holiday weekend. The hotel was lovely-the best on the strip. Although it is in need of some updating (the mirrors in both lifts were cracked and it was a little grubby), compared to some of the other hotels in the vacinity it really was very pretty. The inside of the hotel is awesome-a huge atrium with vines creeping all the way from the ceiling to the floor. Breakfast was lovely but don't book half board as the dinners were very dull (the same thing every night). The only reason we did half-board was so that we wouldn't have to take our 1 and a half year old out late at night. However there are so many lovely restaurants along the boulevard that you need only walk 2 steps to find a good one (the pizzeria in the hotel lobby is wonderful as well as the one near the pool on the beach side). Staff were very pleasant-we asked for a quiet room with a sea view and that's exactly what we got. The pools were clean, the beach was lovely. The rooms are great as they all have a separate lounge area where our little one slept. All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Don't go expecting a glamourous 4 star hotel-I don't think they even exist in this part of Spain but Hotel Bahia Serena was a lovely 3 star and that's all we needed.

“Serenity in Bahia Serena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2006

To be recommended for travellers with children or without (although when we went, in March, it was mostly frequented by Germans of pension age or Spanish with their children). We spent a week at Bahia Serena with our 2.5 year old son. As it's an "aparthotel" you get a separate bedroom so our son could sleep in the living room (with small kitchen area) in a cot. Bathroom was nice and spacious. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food at the buffet (had to take half-board as part of the tour we took). There was a choice of freshly grilled fish and meat nearly every night along with choice of meats, veg, fish off the hotplate. Good choice of salads and desserts as well as freshly made pancakes every evening. There was a spacious "foyer" area where you could sit and have a drink and the highlight for our son was the Popcorn machine which popped a portion of popcorn for 1 Euro, whilst playing a loud tune. The hotel is right on the beach (which is clean and tidy) and there is a lovely promenade all along the beach which you can walk along to the main part of the urbanized area of Roquetas (the real original town of Roquetas (5km away) can be easily reached by bus). When the sun was shining the pool area was great (there is also a small indoor pool but not ideal for toddlers as it's a minimum of 1 metre deep). Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops right on the doorstep.
