“fantastic hotel”

Stayed at Playa Capricho for a family birthday celebration and we all had a great holiday. Hotel was spotlessly clean, we had three rooms all to the same excellent standard. Pools areas were good with loads of sunbeds. An indoor pool was useful as although it was lovely hot sunny weather outdoor pool was too cold for the children to swim in. The food was superb both breakfast and dinner. Staff were very friendly. A nice touch was the bottle of champagne in the room for the birthday boy. So safe for the children as the service road at the side of the hotel accessed the beach with a promenade that went on for miles. The meals were buffet style which was very good but slightly annoying the waiters/waitresses didn't clear the tables very quickly and replace the cutlery/glasses etc. But would certainly stay there again and recommend it to couples and families alike.

“Excellent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2008

As residents of southern Spain we go 50 miles further South and we take a short break with friends before Xmas just to unwind. Last year we stayed in a 5 star hotel in Roquetas, but this year it didn't stay open in winter. So I booked the Playa Capricho for us all and hoped it would be a good choice...................................and it was!
Standard rooms were small, but beautifully decorated and the whole hotel was spotlessly clean. Next year we will book larger rooms as we intend to go back again.
The gardens are well maintained, and the swimming pools are pristine, although it is too cold to use out door pools in Spain in November, unless you are hardy and we are not!
Food was excellent and a wide variety. It was good to see that vegetarians and diabetics were catered for too. Restaurant staff were very pleasant and efficient.
Special mention to the reception staff who speedily checked us in, and if I had any queries they attended to them immediately.
All in all a great experience. I must add that in Summer months Roquetas would be the last resort we would wish to be in due to the masses that congregate here for their vacation. In the winter months this resort is a GEM and the Paseo is brilliant for long leisurely walks. Go and book a break there and find out for yourselves!

“Great Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2008

Booked our usual holiday with Saga after reading reviews in Trip Advisor. A very clean hotel in every respect even the very frequently used toilets in the main reception area. Double lifts to all floors, very little waiting time.Bedrooms with two almost double size beds, plenty of room to move about in the heat of the night.Superb bathroom area with bath/shower,all tiled and very clean.
Food was very adequate, with usually a choice of two fresh fish dishes and two meat dishes cooked to order and more fish and meat dishes on the buffet together with vegetables, salads, pasta dishes, soups, cheeses and a wide selection of breads for lunch and dinner.Desserts didn't have much imagination, but some choice.Breakfast was the usual, english, continental, cereals, fruit and again a wide choice of breads.
Evening entertainment was advertised but consisted of mainly entertainment for the children.
Again as in a lot of spanish hotels staff seem very reluctant to be pleasant, they give the impression that they don't want to be there, probably they get very poor pay.
A massive pool area with jacuzzi, plenty of sunbeds but not enough sunshades, but there are lots of palm trees you can shade under, table tennis and putting green outside.
The hotel can be very busy at weekends when there are usually offers on,so sunbeds are at a premium and it can be rather noisy.A shingle beach and a promenade that is flat and stretches for miles and almeria airport is only forty minutes away.
We really enjoyed our holiday at the capricho and would return again without question. Just a little grumble,we did book ' All Inclusive' but were disappointed that Saga guests were restricted
to drinks that other 'All Inclusive' guests with other holiday companies were not, anything to do with the fall of the pound against the euro,or saga not adding a supplement for fuel rises? I wonder.

“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2008

A lovely hotel very close to the beachfront and local amenities, with a fabulous, large pool area. Our room 301 was extremely convenient, but could do with updating, and needed a kettle. It had a mini-fridge, hairdrier and full bathroom, albeit a little out-dated. The room had a sideview of the sea, with aircon, ceiling fan and balcony. The restaurant had good quality food, we stayed half-board, and a large bar, but no poolside service (at this time of the year anyway). It was certainly lacking in a snack-type restaurant, but there is one a step outside the hotel, virtually on the beach-front. The hotel had room-service, but we didn't use this service, so can't comment. The town itself has plenty of places to eat and supermarkets. The beach is lovely - very clean, well-maintained with plenty of facilities - showers, sunbed and parasol areas, beachfront cafes, children's playgrounds, etc. Very quiet at this time of year.

  • Liked — Position, virtually on the beachfront
  • Disliked — No ketlle in room (silly, I know, but would've made a difference to our stay!)

“Waiting, waiting, waiting”

Hotel stands a few minutes walk from the beach. Good location in the centre of things. My room quite nice, side sea view (504) my friends room was huge but overlooking the street with a large balcony which got the evening sun.(532)The hotel does not have enough staff,it was a terrible scrum in the dining room, waiting for a table to be cleared, waiting in line for the live cooking and then everything being cold once you got back to your table. There are only 2 small lifts for about 500 rooms, and they are also used for the portering of luggage. Takes for ever to get served in the bar, and my friend swears the drinks were watered down. Last 2 days the place was full, so not enough loungers round the pool. The entertainment was terrible, bingo, quizzes, and a spanish trio shouting on top of their voices. It was deafening. We ate out a lot at the M25 cafe which does a super cottage pie, and had some good entertainment at the Caribbean Breezer with Errol and Co and their drinks definitely were not watered down. I think all the Playa hotels should do away with this crazy live cooking, live queuing more like, specially at breafast where one guy was doing the lot. I had a to do with a Spaniard who thought I'd jumped the queue, it was awful, never went in again, 4 euros gets it served to you and it arrives hot. Love Roquetas, have been 3 times but would not stay here again.
