“Perfectly Good Spanish Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2009

We stayed here during half term week, with some trepidation having read previous reviews. In some ways the reviews are correct, but this is a Spanish Hotel in a Spanish Resort, which caters for Spaniards. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, although the bathrooms would benefit from a refit. The much criticised food was actually perfectly OK; it is aimed at the Spanish palate, which is perhaps not to everyone's taste. We found going early for dinner a good idea, as the restaurant was empty and all the food was hot. We also went late for breakfast, again to miss the crowds, but we then did find some of the dishes were not as hot as they might be. We found the staff quite pleasant, particularly those on reception and servicing the rooms, but as others have said many don't speak much English. This is definitely a hotel (and indeed resort) where being able to at least get by in Spanish is an advantage, and Brits expecting a 'UK in the sun' experience should perhaps consider going elsewhere. Away from the hotel we really liked the resort, and as most of our fellow holiday makers were elderly, our four year old son had many of the children's facilities to himself. We definitely recommend Boulevard, Mac Marleys, Delia's Bakery and Y Da Wakes, which are great British bars. Good Spanish places we visited were El Pirata (wicked patatas bravas!), Ayda, Koral Chiringuito and Nido Chiringuito (just behind the hotel).

“Not as bad as painted...”

...but could do with a lick of paint - and some major renovations.
The staff were, on the whole, helpful and friendly although few of them had more than a dozen words of English - fortunately I speak Spanish - and they had next to no tourist information.
The worst aspect was the food which was repetitive and not always as hot as it should be. The (self-service) restaurant was badly designed which meant there was a fight for the food as diners encountered pinch points as they attempted to move from one dish to another and the Spanish think nothing of elbowing people out of the way. The noise levels were awful too, since most of the guests shouted at each other. We quickly discovered that if one wanted hot food in a quiet setting, it was best to eat early - at 19:30 to 20:00. The Spanish prefer to eat late - after 21:00.
There is no parking at the hotel either.
The pools were great, even if one of them was used as a venue for (noisy) children's entertainment.
The rooms were comfortable and clean.
There was a surcharge for the use of a refrigerator.

“Don't go there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2007

Don't go to this hotel. I stayed there with my partner and we both said we would never go back to this hotel ever again. The food was rubbish. I expect my food to be of a warm nature not cold. The signs above the food telling you what it was, was always without fail in the wrong place. The waitresess apart from 1 or 2 never smiled once. The room was very dated and the bed i was sleeping in kept bagging on the floor everytime i sat on it. The entertainment was absolutley rubbish (they should take hint off hotels close by). The drinks were too expensive at the pool bar.
On a good note the Pool was excellent and the location of the hotel was good right on the beach front. Our holiday on a whole was really good, warm weather, nice beach.

“Don't go there unless it is to re-vamp the place!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2007

We have just returned from a group holiday to the Costa Almeria in Spain. The resort of Roquetas de Mar is great but the hotel Golf Trinidad was rubbish. It did have some good qualities; the anamacion staff (Alfonso, Alba, Gloria & Maria) and the activities; the paddling pool for the children; and the situation ( close to the beach and the rest of the resort). However the bad points far outweighed to good ones.

When we first arrived on the coach to be taken to our hotel, we were handed a welcome pack. In this were various details about our hotel, i.e. what to expect when we got to reception but also it mentioned the hire of the fridge for the week. Although we had booked for half board and we knew there was facilities in the room for catering, we weren't expecting to have to fork out extra costs for hiring a fridge. The extra costs did not stop there though. You had to pay 18 euros per week to hire the fridge, 18 euros per week to hire the cutlery and crockery and then a further 18 euros per week to hire a kettle! This was all non-returnable.

When we first went to our room we walked in and I had to go to the toilet. When I walked in the bathroom, all I could smell was stale wee, (which didn't seem to go away the whole holiday) but it did look clean although very dated, and there were clean towels every day. The room itself had 2 beds in and then through a curtained area into the lounge which converted into 2-3 further beds. The curtain did not fit the opening properly and when
we initially arrived there was no bedding for the childrens beds either. This was quickly rectified when my husband found a cleaner (non-English speaking) and asked her for some more bedding. The curtains on the patio doors onto the balcony did not fit either and they were also hanging off the rails in places and I had to peg them together and wedge something at either side to prevent any light from coming in the room. My impression of this
room was that it hadn't been touched since the hotel was built (probably sometime in the 1970's because of the lovely blue bathroom!! and the fashionable lightshades). Friends who were in a separate room and had paid for the hire of the fridge and cutlery and crockery, were only able to use one ring out of the two on the cooker, because the other one was broken.

The food was atrocious and tasteless. The breakfast was the same every day, no variety, and always swimming in olive oil. The evening meal was again always swimming in olive oil and more often than not over cooked. This probably has something to do with the fact that the food was not cooked on site but re-heated once it arrived at the hotel. We only found this out because one of our party (a child) has a severe egg allergy and when we asked them to look on the packets of stuff for the ingredients, they couldn't do it. They did go and buy some egg free pasta and she had to have the same thing every day. Another one of our friends had to eat out every day because she couldn't stomach the food because it was so tasteless, adding
more to the ever increasing cost of the holiday. The coffee was also disgusting and was like undrinkable tar.

We all (with the exception of one person who didn't go in the pool anyway) were ill. Some with diarrhoea and others with earache, which raises the question, is there something wrong with the pool? The pools were staffed with lifeguards but when another child in our group fell out of her rubber ring in the main pool she was too busy on her phone, (or was it listening to her music, I can't remember which because she did both all day), she didn't
see the child and she had to be saved by another adult. Our children were playing in the pool with a li-lo and this was the only time when the lifeguard took any notice and they were told, they weren't allowed to use them.

There were 5 bars in total in the hotel but only 2 were in use. One was the restaurant bar which was only open when the restaurant was and the other was the poolside bar. The restaurant bar was cheaper than the poolside bar and you weren't allowed to take your drinks from one to the other! The poolside bar gave out plastic glasses until 7 o'clock when you were allowed glass
ones but the restaurant had all glass ones.

I have filled in various different questionnaires, one given by the holiday rep and one given on the airline, and I have suggested that the holiday company remove this hotel from their brochure, or at least be more honest in the star rating. It has 3 stars currently but I wouldn't have given it 1 star and price the holidays more accordingly.

I was very disappointed by this hotel, as was the rest of the group i was travelling with and we would not recommend it to anyone. The resort, although catering more for the Spanish tourists, was very good and I would recommend it but definitely a different hotel.

“Hotel - more like HOSTEL”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2007

We have just returned from Almeria for the second year running. We thought that this year we would try a different hotel. What a mistake that turned out to be!!!!

We always block book as there is a group of 10+ every year. When we arrived at the hotel and checked in at reception it was fine, just like any normal hotel. But when we went to our rooms......... The smell, oh my god - it smelt of the sewer. The rooms are very dated and can JUSTaccomodate a family of four. But do not expect any privacy as there is only a curtain dividing the two bedding areas!! And to top it all off if you want to make use of the fridge you have to ask at reception for a "maintenance" man to come and switch it on. For this facility you have to cough up 18 Euros per week. You do not get any utensils either, no cups, no spoons, forks, plates

Then there is the food - even the Spanish people were moaning about it. If you don't get the squits then consider yourself one of the luckly ones. My daughter has an allergy to egg and despite us learning how to speak in Spanish "My daughter is allergic to egg, can I check the ingredients please." The staff just kept saying "no understand inglis". Damn right rude.

The Flamingo Club for the kids was okay but no real effort goes into it by the so called entertainers. The evening entertainment was a pile of poop. (THANK HEAVENS FOR ERROL AND ANGELA'S BREEZER BAR ACROSS THE ROAD).

The saving grace for the hotel is the nice pool area, which backs onto the sea. But they could do with investing in some new loungers. Oh and life guards that actually pay attention to what is going on around them rather than trying to shag each other or falling asleep listening to the radio!!

To conclude, I would not recommend this hotel to any one, unless the owner completely overhauls the place. And I mean completely overhauls, not just changing the light bulbs.... They need to utilise the inside bar as the only place you can get a drink in the outside bar near the pool.
