“Everything fantastic - except dining area - buffet and likened to a canteen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

The Puerto Antilla Grand was a lovely, clean hotel, we had a good size bedroom with all the usual facilities that was cleaned every day and bedlinen/towels changed frequently. The gardens were absolutely beautiful and again spotlessly clean pools/area. The bar areas were good as well, but I guess being well to the end of the season, the bar in pool area was closed. The only thing that let it down, was the dining room. Ok we knew it was buffet service but didn't know it was one huge room with no personality - we likened it to a staff canteen. The food was ok with a good selection, but was always lukewarm. In the main, staff were happy and obliging. There are a few restaurants within a ten minutes stroll and others in La Antilla which is about a 15 minute walk. If we stayed again it would be on a bed/breakfast arrangement. Just another thought, it was very Spanish, we are an English couple with about another 3/4 English couples staying. For us, that made it brilliant and encouraged us to really try with our Spanish volcabulary. Don't go if you want mainly Brits and everything that normally goes with it!

“Lovely hotel but some reservations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

I think the previous reviews are a fair snapshot of the hotel. It is certainly modern and clean and the rooms are of the quality and have the facilities you would expect of a four star hotel. Each room has a minibar (at the usual exhorbitant prices) and tv with the 3 standard english language channels: BBC world news; sky news and CNN. The hotel impresses with its fabulous spacious interior design. It has a spa and gym and indoor heated pool. I felt it was a bit mean to charge €5 per hour for use of the sauna given that other hotels of the same standard I have stayed in have thrown it in for free. The gardens, outside pools and grounds are kept nicely and look well. Although the hotel seemed busy there were plenty of loungers around and there was none of that "leaving the towels out at 7am" routine you see in other places. Nightlife in the hotel was quiet as you might expect from the profile of the clients and centred around the bar. Children didnt seem to go to bed too early and many were still up playing after 11pm. Most staff spoke at least a little english but don't expect that everyone will. We found it handy to have a phrase book to help us and would recommend it as a good idea to bring one.

The hotel was populated almost exclusively by Spanish and Portuguese guests and, as the kids had just gone on holidays, many were with young families. This brings me to the only negative point I have about the hotel. Although the food quality was good and the choice was varied, all meals were buffet style and with so many guests and with so many young children, meal times invariably took on a feel of a school canteen. This didn't bother us too much but those looking for a more formal dining experience should bear it in mind. Possibly outside of the peak holiday season things might be a little different but the comparatively large size of the eating area and presence of so many tables did remind me of my school days a little. Finally one word of warning, the spanish eat late so it is preferable not to leave breakfast or dinner to the last minute in the hotel otherwise you may end up at the end of a long queue waiting to enter the dining room.

Potential guests should be aware that the Islantilla area is by and large visited by spanish guests. Therefore dont expect to go and see the standard English/Irish pubs, fast food restaurants and games arcades landscape of Lanzarote or Costa del Sol. It thankfully doesn't exist here. Instead expect to find a smallish resort tailored to the Spanish older couple/young family market. The beach is the best I have ever seen and is almost deserted in stretches as it extends for miles in both directions. There is a small number of local restaurants including a couple of excellent local fish restaurants located literally on the beach. There is also a smallish shopping centre with some excellent quality and good value stock. At the time of writing prices were very reasonable compared to those at home for both food and other items.

Overall, those wanting a holiday with a more authentically Spanish feel will enjoy the hotel and resort, those who want nightlife, bars and discos have very little for them here.

“Why can't all hotels look like this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2010

The lobby in this hotel is the one of the most impressive I have ever seen – why can't all hotels look like this! As you enter you can see right down the stairs to a stunning water feature outside at the back of the hotel. Dozens of differently upholstered couches invite you to relax and soak up the environment. The rooms seem to lack the same wow factor but maybe thats a good thing because everything else is almost over whelming. Standard room sizes are spacious and offer partial views of the sea. Double sinks and the balcony lend to the sense of opulence. Also nice to have english speaking CNN as one of the TV (CRT) channels. The walk to the aforementioned water feature leads onto beautiful gardens with various stimulating aromas and a glimpse of the spa and indoor pool area. There is a huge outdoor hawaiian style eating area which is set up for barbecues and I can only imagine what this must be like in summer. There is private access to the seaside. I did very little sight seeing that day, it was enough to lounge in the lobby! Try the house cocktail, and don't be intimidated by the giant straws!

“Excellent hotel - A complete hit with three generations of my family.”

If you want a well organised, clean, friendly hotel in a less busy location this is an absolute must. We stayed here for 7 days at the start of April 2010 and has a brilliant time. The hotel rooms are large and well furnished, communial areas are very open and green and the gardens are just fantastic. We decided to go for a Half Board stay and so pleased that we did as the Evening Meal was first rate. I can't believe that this only got 4 stars as its much better than the many 5 star hotels that i have found in Spain. This is a real find.

“Impressive Hotel - Quiet Nightlife”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2009

We stayed at the Puerto Antilla Grand Hotel in June 2008. What an Impressive Hotel, it was built in the Moorish style with palm trees growing indoors and plants cascading down from every floor in the large central atrium. It is a large hotel but it has enough facilities to deal with all the guests and it never felt over crowded. There is an excellent promanade that runs along at the back of the hotel and at night time it is busy with spanish familys out for a walk with the children. The guests were mainly Spanish and Portugese families and it is a very child friendly hotel. The buffet breakfast and dinner were always busy but the dining room was so big that it could easly cope. The choice of food was huge and varied so we never felt the need to eat out.The nightlife in Islantilla is quiet, there are a few bars in the commercial centre a 5 minute walk away.
This would be an excellent hotel for a familt with young children.
