“Lacking Customer Service Skills”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The parador itself is well appointed and modern. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Our room had a really lovely view over the river estuary. So why am I only giving this a poor rating? Because none of the staff has mastered the skill of making guests feel welcome. From the brusque 'welcome' on arrival, to the service without a smile in the bar we felt as if we were being intrusive simply by staying in the parador. Worst of all of all was our experience in the breakfast room when we were told not to sit near the window because the tables were only for 4 people and we were two. This was in spite of the fact that the parador was almost empty in mid january, and no other guests were eating in the breakfast room.

With some proper hospitality training for the staff this could be a very good parador, but until then I won't be rushing back.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the estury.

“High class”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed in the hotel in late November 2011 and had a great room (junior suite) on the west side overlooking the Guadiana river rolling from North to South. On the North you could see the new bridge that brings you to Portugal, and in the South is the town and the little estuary. Great place, very relaxing. Perhaps a bit cold, but what else would you expect in November? The hotel is very modern, the service was good, as was the outlook from the dining room. Romantic? Perhaps a bit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Guadiana river (west side).

“Good location, food overpriced”

We stayed here one night. The hotel is built in a lovely location, overlooking the Guadiana River which separates Spain from Portugal. The building is seventies style, long and characterless, but because of the style most of the rooms are big and have balconies looking out onto the river and to your left the town itself. The town is walking distance, but advise taking a taxi back to the hotel as it is all uphill home! Do not eat here, it is very expensive and with no imagination. There is a big choice of good quality restaurants in Ayamonte itself.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for room looking onto the river

“Views to Portugal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2010

A typically old fashioned "modern" parador overlooking the River Guardiana which marks the border between Spain and Portugal. We had a spacious room with great views to the west. The building doesn´t have much charm, but the receptionist was very welcoming and the restaurant friendly and accommodating (they let us share plates of food without complaint). This was a welcome hideaway during terrible (warm but wet) December weather. Ayamonte itself looks like an uncontrolled architectural nightmare of a coastal development zone, typical of much of the Spanish coastline - we avoided it. The Parador is north of the town, signposted from a roundabout a few minutes drive from the motorway: one can avoid entering Ayamonte with no problem.
