“Nice hotel, great location, good food, helpful staff”

Stayed for 2 weeks with my husband and 5 year old son. We were allocated a massive room on the top floor with terrace and fantastic views over the lake. Beds were comfy and room was cleaned nicely daily. En-suite bathroom was very good and clean. Towels changed daily. Room was very quiet, which we had worried about with a 5 year old, especially travelling at a peak time. Food in restaurant was good and staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel is situated in a quiet location at one end of the main promenade. This was great as it meant we were within easy walking distance of restaurants/cafes/shops etc but were also in a quiet location. This was the best of both worlds as far as we were concerned! For those who like to explore by bus, there is a bus-stop right outside the front of the hotel. Staff at reception also helped us arrange car-hire as we did not see our Citalia rep once during our stay! We travelled to nearly all the other towns on the lake and did not find one where we would have preferred to stay. Salo is a lovely town which has more of an Italian feel compared to lots of the other towns and was less frequented by English/German tourists, even in August. All in all a great holiday!

“Really Poor 4 Star Hotel, Appalling Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

I always look on trip advisor before I book a hotel and this time was no different, the hotel got good reviews.

We returned back from the Hotel Salo Du Parc today and I was so dissapointed with the hotel I came straight on to write the review. I am not sure what type of hotels the other reviewers have stayed in previously to think this was a good hotel - It is not!

We booked a Triple Deluxe Room for 8 nights via Expedia costing nearly £1300 B&B just for the hotel so it was not cheap. We were shown to our room on the fifth floor, it was apparently a deluxe room and when I asked what was deluxe about they said its just bigger! The first night our shower did not work so had to wait until the next day for this to be fixed. After the first two nights I noticed it was really hot in our room, when I went to reception to say our air-conditioning was not working they said that they turn off the air conditioning n the 15th September - basically tough luck! I asked if it could be turned on as was at least 26C outside and in the room even hotter but no, they could not provide me with a fan and just said to leave the patio door open at night. We have a 22 month old daughter, the balconies all joined together and the glass in the balcony was cracked - I was hardly going to do this. I spoke to the manager the next day and she basically said the same - tough! This lead to what was basically 8 sleepless nights for all three of us.

I think the term Spa hotel should be used in its loosest term possible as if you want to use the jacuzzi or sauna its 10 Euro per person per time, so could end up very pricey. The pool was absolutely freezing also around 20c which made it impossible for my daughter to go in and enjoy even though she was desperate to go in, she even said "too cold"

The bathroom also had a pungent smell of sewerage every evening.

On the plus side of this hotel, it is very near to town about a 5 minute walk and has lovely views of the lake. We went for a wedding and other friends stayed at the Hotel Duomo which was nice (better 4 star) and Villa Arcadio which is very much out of the way but beautiful.

I can recommend a trip to Verona which is easy to find by car and a day out in Venice which is a 90 train ride from Desanzano and costs 45 euro return, well worth it!

We flew to Verona Villa Franca Airport (VRN) and other friends to Brescia and I would recommend hiring a car if you can as a taxi is 130 euro each way. There are about 8 free parking spaces outside of the hotel and a payable car park across the road.

I know we went slightly out of season but I felt as though the staff and management had switched off for the winter season and did not care at all!

Would I recommend Salo - yes! Would I recommend this hotel - NO Way!

Good Afternoon,

I do apologize about your stay and, about the fact that we did not explained properly the difference between Deluxe and Comfort room.
The Deluxe rooms are located on the higher floors compare to the Comfort rooms. They are bigger and some of theme different refurbished and especially on the 5th floor they are set up as a triple room.
I feel so sorry about the impression that you perceived. it won't happen again and I do appreciate your comment I will take it as an advise in order for us to do not make the same mistake again.

Thank you very much and my apologies for the delay.

Regards

“Over rated, great views, sub standard catering”

Had to fight to get a room change after being given a room that used to be known as the Doctor's room. The balcony was viewed by people using the main staircase, the bathroom had no shelves, & the wardrobe half length, useless for long dresses. Once room had changed it was OK. The breakfast lacked cooked food. The evening dinner was very poor with a limited menu & the cooking not to a high standard. We had to choose the following evening's dinner whilst finishing dinner. How do you know what you would like 24 hours in advance whilst just digesting one meal?

“Outdated hotel with perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

The location of this hotel is perfect – just at the end of the promenade but still quiet and private. We had a room on the top floor with a large balcony and a perfect view of the lake.
The hotel itself probably hasn’t’ been refurbished the last 30-40 years, so don’t expect much in terms of design etc. All interior seems old and warned out. Rooms are however spacey and bathrooms ok updated.
Breakfast was nothing special, but sitting on the outside terrace seemed OK. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner at the hotel, as all the restaurants in Salo were within easy walking distance. However we did notice that the menu for lunch was very dull – only a few uninspiring options (frozen pizza-slice etc).
Staff was very helpful, but only a few spoke a little English though. Pool was rather small but very nice. The hotel offers pool towels, but they were only rarely available (always “ready within an hour”), so probably it will be smarter to bring your own.
Salo is a very nice little charming town, with a nice promenade, fine restaurants and of course the most fantastic position at the lake.

“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

This is a really nice hotel, very clean, staff are friendly and breakfast is good. For us the only downside was that the bar closed quite early (for us!) Parking was also a bit of an issue, there are some spaces outside the hotel but not many so we often found ourselves parking a few streets away - not usually a problem but during our stay it rained a lot.
