We booked our stay on priceline-europe in a hurry the night before leaving for Italy, so we were a little nervous about what to expect. We were looking for something affordable in the center of Cosenza, but this is actually in Rende, a neighboring town. As we were traveling by train and nothing is close to the station, this location was probably as good as any--about 5 minutes from the train or Cosenza city center by car (train station is not in the city center). Fortunately we had a local friend picking us up and driving us around, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to find. Seemed like it was in a nice, mostly residential (appartments) area.
We had been staying in mostly 2-star b&b budget places throughout Italy, so this hotel seemed luxurious to us. We booked the cheapest double room possible at $65 euros on a Saturday night, which was an absolute bargain compaired to what we'd been paying throughout Italy for much lesser accomodations. We were surprised when we got to our room to discover that this was a full suite with a living room/work area, kitchenette, beautiful bathroom (with the usual mini shower), and comfortable bedroom. We even double checked with the front desk to make sure there hadn't been some mistake. I don't know if this was a standard room, or a free upgrade.
While not brand new, everything was modern, well maintained, clean, and comfortable. 10 years ago this hotel probably would have been pristine.
The hotel seemed fairly empty, with maybe a few business travelers. We enjoyed an abundant continental breakfast. the staff was very courteous and professional and spoke passable English. All in all, a very nice place to stay that far exceeded our expectations.
