“Good choice for a family with small kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

We had a good overall experience with Iria Mare. The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel lies in fornt of a nice sandy beach and it also offers a small swimming pool. I noticed that they are building another swimming pool at the back of the property along with a sports center with 2 tennis courts a 5x5 soccer court and a basketball court. The hotel clients consisted mainly of Greek families with small kids and some French groups. The breakfast and dinner buffet were good. Room service was slow. There was no real satellite TV only Greek channels along with ZDF, TV5 Monde and Euronews. Also there were no hair dryers in the room. The hotel is quite isolated. It is about 30' minutes by car from Nafplio and Epidaurus and if you do not have a car you might get bored after a while.

“The very best compination to calm and travel around.I always love to stay there.”

You can realize immediately where you are going to.Looking on the map the area is kind of isolated, something like the end of the road.It is a country side where Artichoke is growing.Yet if you have a car you can visit one of the most historic places of ancient and new Greece. You can visit Mycenae, Tiryns and Epidaurus with the theater listed as world heritage of Unesco and The asclepieion, the famous healing center of the Classical world.Further a trip to Nafplio official capital of Greece Greek War of Independence at 1829 and around the beautiful beaches of Tolo and Drepano is absolutely indispensable.
The Hotel is exactly a 4 star hotel with a large swimming pool where you can easily relax after the long trip you had.It is not obligatory to have dinner inside unless you have got the fixed program.First time i went there 1997 and since then i always go there even for a couple of days.If you dont like children, try to avoid August since a lot of families of employees of various companies might have gone there as "fringe benefits".Another thing is that the hotel covers some Timesharing facilities (which i never had any idea about this form of vacations anyway). The area seems to expand touristic (there is another 5 star hotel in Candia ) which might be good for locals but bad for those who are looking the old traditional Greek scenery and landscape.

“Great base for travel around mainland--but rent your own car!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

We were miserable our first day here, because it was a Sunday and we were stranded. The resort is kinda in the middle of nowhere...we were really bored until the next morning when we arranged for a car to be delivered for us from Napflion. Once we had the car, it was FANTASTIC! We drove all over-Napflion, Tolo, Mycenae, Corinth, Iberia, and more. The hotel was deserted other than one single American traveller and a French tour group. Very quiet, but we were there in the off season....so we knew it would be like that. and we loved it!

There are day trips that leave from Tolo and Nafplio (Tolo is closer) to visit other islands.
Tolo and Nafplio are both really neat towns, Nafplio being the bigger of the two. It is easy to spend a day in Nafplio...there is plenty to do for a day or two.

**BEST FOOD IN GREECE**
Tolo has the best restaurant in greece though...It was across from the beach and looked like a wine patio outside. It was AWESOME. we went there several times but I cannot for the life of me remember the name...

Dont eat at the resort, the food is overpriced and awful.

We had a blast traveling around the country from Iria. We then went to Athens and to Santorini, but we loved beginning our honeymoon in Iria. But, take my advice--GET YOUR OWN CAR!!

We were on an RCI Timeshare exchange.

“Lean Service-only the basics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2011

It was a three day Easter escape trip (Half Board Basis).
The hotel is a typical summer resort hotel, about 25km away from Nafplion, with no opportunities to occupy the children within the hotel.
Room attendants appeared and serviced the room only a day prior our departure.
The receptionist upon check in, proved to be unaware of the restaurant opeing hours.
Cleaningless of the room: by lifting the bed matress (a box type bed) one could easily see a lot of dust hidden underneath..
Breakfast: only the very basic elements, butter, honey, jam, two kinds of cereal, bread and cake in slice, slices of processed cheese and wannabe ham. No orange juice, just fruit cocktail in carafes.
The was a coffee station with filtered coffee, hot water warm/cold milk.
There was also the alternative of instant coffee, hot cjhocolate and one selection of tea bags.
The meals (dinner with the exception of Easter which was lunch) were okayish, although they supposed to be celebrative, due to Easter, at least this is was it was advertized through the TA.

To conclude: the service was not up to the four star standards.
