“Really friendly, well run, hotel”

Greece beats most of Europe for a friendly welcome; and Pythgorio is as friendly as Greek resorts come. Only know the Mykali, on the outskirts of Pythagorio (towards Vathi), but doubt you would find a friendlier hotel. It offers all one expects from a Greek hotel, and at an exceptionally price ... I had a real bargain. I went B & B, and had precisely the room that I expect in Greece; and I do not suppose mine was the best on the large complex with at least 5 major blocks. Breakfast was also much as I would expect, but with slightly more choice of cereal (very continental) than some; and with a daily 'extra' (often a local speciality) in addition to the standard fare of ham, cheese and hard-boiled eggs to go with some really nice bread. Only had the evening meal on Sunday, when choice was limited, but the food quite reasonable; however, Pythagorio is exceptionally good for eating out nightly, so advise B & B. Only 4* rating because of location; walking into Pythgorio along the road is not pleasant, so the 5 times a day shuttle minibus is a Godsend. And the wind can whistle quite loudly a couple of times a day (mind you, mine was probably the windiest room!).

“Worst hotel ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

After former great reviews of this hotel on tripadvisor, our hopes where big on this Greek pearl. Never have we been more wrong.

Bad things:
Dirty and badly built bathroom, only extreme hot/cold water in the shower, the shower was only 0,5 x 0,5 meters, FILLED with bedbugs that made us scrach all over, aircondition was broken, no sea view (as promised) because of overgrown trees and bushes, heated frozen schnitzel, frozen vegetables and powder mashed potatoes served as main course in the restaurant (including an apple on a plate for desert titled "fruit" on the menu).

Good things:
Big pool, nice bar, happy and nice staff.

The few nice things does not outweigh the bad i am afraid. I would not choose this hotel.

“Lovely hotel, great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

We had a lovely stay at the Mykali.

The rooms are spotlessly clean, quite basic but everything you need. Pool is fantastic, plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. Staff very helpful and friendly, I am a vegetarian and they went out of their way to accommodate me.

The food is quite basic but full of flavour .... and plenty of it. Breakfast is a continental buffet, dinner is a set menu. The pool bar is lovely, wide range of drinks.

There is a free bus from the hotel hich runs several times a day, however it is only 5 euros for a taxi into town. The location is at the top of a hill and about a 25 minute walk into the centre but it makes it worth it when you see the views of Turkey. Would advise renting a car from the place next to the hotel and seeing the island .... beautiful. Also don't miss a trip to Phisilliamos beach.

Would definitely recommend this lovely hotel.

“Two weeks in wonderful Mykali hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

My girlfriend and me just got home from a fantastic vacation on Samos Island in Greece. We stayed there from July 10 - July 24. We have been to other greek islands but from what we experienced Samos is the best place to spend your vacation if the purpose is relaxation -- and our choice of Mykali Hotel really helped with this.

We got room 08 which turned out to have a view of the sea just like in the travel catalogue. There is cleaning every day and the room is spotless when you get back in the afternoon. New towels every two-three days which is OK.
The pool area is really nice. Some of the largest pools in Samos and very child-friendly. Deepest end is 3 meters and and child area is less than 1 meter.
Mykali is located on top of a hill just outside Pythagorion city and there is always a breeze of wind which is very nice in the mid-day hours. The owner Nicos drives the free hotel bus to Pythagorion five times a day or else you can take a taxi for EUR5.
The food could be better but it is fine if you just want to stay at the hotel. Many visitors order both breakfast (buffet) and dinner (three courses) but we choose only breakfast. However, we asked friendly and got the main dish for EUR5 each some evenings.

There is a mix of both scandinavians, germans, swiss, italians, french, slovenians in all ages. The hotel applies to most people.

The thing we really want to point out is the sweet and friendly staff. It is a family run hotel and after two weeks we felt like a part of that family. We usually sat in the pool bar in the evenings and talked to Litza - the sweet bartender - and this is really one of the things we will remember this vacation for. Too bad most hotel visitors stayed in their rooms at night and not in the bar.

Thanks to Penny, Litza, Nicos, Rocco (hotel dog), Eleni and everyone else for making this a fantastic vacation. We will for sure come back to Mykali as we know it will be the same people working there.

Kind regards,
Louise & Jesper from Denmark

“Fabulous Views and Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2008

I was at a conference in Samos, but unable to book into the venue (luxury resort hotel). AlmaTravel service booked this hotel for me, which was a fraction of the price. I was a little concerned after reading reviews on here, but... OK, the hotel is a little way (up a winding hilly road) from the village, but it has fabulous views to the south and east; it was very clean; breakfast was plentiful; bed was very comfortable; staff were very friendly and helpful (just a smile before saying you don't speak Greek works wonders!). I would have no hesitation in going back on business or with family on holiday. My ONLY slight beef - and it is slight - is that I like tea/coffee stuff in room... but that's just me.
