“fantastic, brilliant hotel & holiday, will be returning! Worked in the travel industry 23 years this is one of the best”

I have worked for 23 years in the UK travel industry and had not seen this hotel in any UK holiday brochure, however, this is an amazing hotel which we enjoyed to the max.

We stayed for a week on 24th August 2010 and forstly wanted to say how fabulous the staff are and how unobtrusive they were on our holiday, it's the wonderful kind of place to go if you want to get away from it all and the stresses of life..

It's very much a peaceful and tranquil hotel, lots of little intimate places who spend time with a loved one... to read, to relax and to enjoy very lush surroundings. Only 30 or so rooms , you could really kick off your shoes and chill out...

This is not a pretentious hotel asking for you to be glamorous, this is a small boutique style hotel which is clean, tidy and well kept.

We stayed in room 304 and our patio doors opened onto small private pool shared by our neighbours. It gave the impression of really having your own plunge pool!!! Although the main pool is gorgeous and has a swim up bar which is staffed and served excellent cocktails!!! There are also 5 jaccuzi pools at the side of the hotel, which again stay pretty private, such a lovely place...

For those of you looking to stay fit, as we did, there is a small fitness room with enough to keep you ticking over for your stay, the roads outside the hotel are ok for running on too...

There is a supermarket within 5 mins walk of the hotel where you can pick up everyday stuff!!! which you're very welcome to bring back to the hotel.. The sister hotel Med Beach is also down the road where it has it's own beach.. the snack bar there is fab and you ca always grab a bite to eat at any time..

You will not be disappointed with this choice of hotel, only 5 mins from the airport, seriously, the aircraft noise did not affect us that much at all...

Taxi into Kamari 10 Euros, taxi to Fira 10 Euros..you get the picture... there are only an handful of taxi's on the island so be prepared to share with strangers!!! splits the cost anyways!!!

The hotel offers a shuttle bus transfer to Kamari & Fira etc.. and this should be prebooked with reception and only costs 3 Euros each! brilliant! the 8.30 bus gets pretty booked so get in quick!

If you book the morning cruise, Volcano & Hot springs.. contrary to the description there are no free snacks or drinks so take your own.. and the hot springs is disappointing and leaves a nasty rusty stain on everything!!!!

we're very much looking forward to returning to this hotel - a fabulous find that we don't really want to tell everyone about as it's a hidden gem!!!

“I will DEFINITELY be returning to this hotel!!!”

Everyone here is exceptionally helpful and friendly, the staff is multi-lingual, and the convenience of its service was completely unexpected. The hotel has its own private beach, so you don't have to worry about not having a semi-private spot in the sun. Of course, there are multiple pools to lay beside if the sand isn't your thing. The best part about the hotel was the all inclusive program that includes all meals, local beverages (even the alcoholic ones) between the hours of 10 am and 10 pm, snacks at 4pm, and a packed lunch if needed. I am not a drinker, but I can assure those that are that this program is a winner because it gives one the ability to be completely sloshed and fed for less than $50 a day (35 euro). I can't say anything bad about the place. I did expect a bigger room, but the fault for that would lie more on the shoulders of orbitz than the resort as I was told I was booking a larger room; however, it wasn't so bad that I couldn't adjust. It was spotless, and was actually slightly bigger than the standard room here in the States.

My advice: if you're going to Santorini, and you should, stay at the Mediterranean Royal or it's sister hotel, Mediterranean Beach. Medhotel.gr

“Best vacations ever..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2008

We stayed at Mediterranen Royal from 28.07-11.08.2008 and that was absolutely the best vacations we have ever had. Our room was with a terrace with an entrance to a small swimming pool where we had two private sunbeds and table with chairs (Attention: the swimming pool is for three different rooms not only for one).
The best thing at this hotel (in my opinion) is the swiming pools' bar (main swimming pool). It is absolutely amazing) This is the first time I see a hotel with such a good bar and cocktails))) That impressed me a lot.
Breakfast is on a terrace with a seeview. Actually we had the same breakfast every day but that was ok. Lunch and dinner are at the nearby hotel Mediterranean beach. Maybe the food is not really traditional greek but good).
I'll recommend this hotel to all my friends who is planning to visit Santorin)

“Nice hotel but overpriced! (like everything in Santorini)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2006

My partner and I returned from the Med Royal yesterday. I would say that our stay was overall nice but not what we had expected.

First of all I would like to mention that we booked through Neckermann Reisen, a German travel agency with a good reputation. My impression was though that they have never had a look at the hotel rooms which they offer. We booked a room with direct sea view and with a Bad und Dusche (bath and shower). There was absolutely no shower, just a tiny bath tub with a hand shower, no shower curtain or anything like that. So whenever you had a shower (holding the shower head with one hand), the whole bathroom would be under water. When we complained about this at the reception, they told us NONE of the rooms in the whole hotel has a shower!!!

Secondly, our room had only sea view from the balcony, sideways, not - as booked - direct sea view. What the other review says in regards to food is true. It was not good at all. For a 4 star hotel it was a shame. It was good enough to survive but no pleasure and really not Greek food at all! What really upset me though was that the "swim-up pool bar" has no service. You can sit there all day long but no one will come to serve you a drink. I really wanted a pool bar and it was one of the main reasons why we went for this place. :(

The hotel is pretty far off anything so you have no choice but to eat what they serve. The bus connection sucks and we did not want to rent out a car since the driving skills of the Greek people are rather scary.

Last but not least the positive sides:

The hotel personel is very very nice and tries hard to serve you. Except for the room maids who seemed to only work when being tipped, all the waiters and barkeepers were extremely nice and fast. Costas and Antonio, the two barkeepers at the little pool bar of the royal hotel were amazing guys and seemed to really enjoy their job.

The pools are overall very nice and the whole hotel/garden setup is lovely. We very much enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine. The only not-so-good thing was that they were playing music non-stop from noon until midnight which was kind of annoying and made sleeping with an open window impossible.

Overall a nice vacation although overpriced. We paid almost 1000 Euro each for 7 days. The Royal gives itself 5 stars, the official rating through Neckerman said 4 start. They are definitely far away from that.....

Conclusion: Nice if all you want to do is lay at the pool all day long. You could probably get a better deal for that kind of money at a different location though....
