I have just stayed at the Rainbow for two weeks; it is a modern, clean resort with a smallish pool. I was a little disappointed here as being a single traveller I was put into an on-suit bedroom with a sink in the corner right outside the main bar which has entertainment until 4am. For me it was a cramped noisy two weeks, I asked why I had not got what I paid for, a Studio Apartment and was told, that was all that they had and they were fully booked. I had looked for a place with a good rating when booking, having experienced this as a single traveller before, but after paying the same as everyone else for a comfortable room, I was shunted into a small stuffy room, with no privacy, no windows and right outside the bar. The pool water was not the best and was murky as hell, on enquiring why, I was told two of the filters had broken and would not be fixed that year, there were lots of ear infections. On the brighter side, the staff were great and could not do enough for you, the food was all snaky stuff, chips, burgers etc at the bar, but was well cooked, there were plenty of sun loungers around the pool, a great selection of books for a free swap, even a suntan lotion bank, where people going home left what was left for others. The music around the bar was ever present but not loud or oppressive and there was no organised stupidity through the day. Stalis / Stalida, is a nice low key place with plenty of bars and restaurants but not in your face, you can walk the length of the strip without being accosted every couple of minutes. A very enjoyable stay other than the room. I would go back to Stalis again, but perhaps not the same hotel.

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at these apartments and having read the reviews of this place before we went, I can basically only confirm what most have already said.
On arrival we were met by Maria who was very helpful ( as were all the people who worked there), who directed us to our room 407. The room was on the other side of the complex, away from the main road and was on the top of 3 floors overlooking the pool with good views of the beach ( albeit over the top of other buildings). The room was a superior room, it was clean and fairly well apointed for a self catering break, with comfortable beds, nice size bathroom ( smallish shower cubicle), good storage space and good cooking facilities with kettle and microwave supplied, but I did find the lack of a toaster strange. The other thing that I found strange was that you had to pay a bit extra for the air conditioning (7 euros a day) which adds to the cost of your holiday. This tends to a necessity as the temperatures were quite high when we were there.
The complex itself is not large, with only 41 rooms in total, but it has what most people require, a central pool with fair amount of sunbeds around it ( while we were there no one was hogging them either with towels) and a poolside bar that sells a variety of drinks and snacks. Just outside the complex is Marias supermarket which is reasonably priced and supplies everything you probably need.
One tip that I would pass on and this has no reflection on these apartments but might help your holiday, is this, take whatever precautions you can to prevent mosquito bites. The shops over there do sell sprays, creams and plug in devices for the room, but if like us you have to look for them over there its probably too late as you have already been bitten and it can be very irritating and uncomfortable.
Just a bit about Stalis itself, the beach is across a busy road as has been mentioned, but is nice when you get there. Marias golden beach restaurant is superb, great friendly staff, good food and prices, Nemos beach bar has free mini golf and the Robin Hood bar for your nightly quizzes, irish bingo and a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
In summary the Rainbow apartments more than lived up to our expectations and I can only rubber stamp what so many reviews have said before, Stalis is a very relaxed and friendlly place stay, now if they can just get rid of those bloody mosqitos.

Room Tip: Personally I would recommend superior room overlooking pool away from main road

My husband and I stayed at these apartments for 1 week in september this year. we paid extra for a superior room. Room was big and spacious and very clean.
However, one of the sliding doors was broken. There was no shower rail/curtain so the bathroom was a swamp. The aircon made a horrible noise.
Apartments are only 5 mins walk from centre but there is a lethal road that you have to cross to get there.
These apartments are clean but there are far nicer hotels/apartments on the beach and I had stayed on the beach previous. They werent terrible and we both had a great time in stalis but I would not stay at the rainbow again.

Room Tip: not room 406

“Lovely holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Had a really lovely holiday at the Rainbow apartments. Their location was really good, only a 3 minute walk down a slight hill to beach and resort, however this did mean crossing a busy main road or using the underpass, both of which involved steps so would not be at all suitable for disabled or those with poor mobility. There is a supermarket next door to the apartments.
The apartments have lots of steps to both the pool area from the road and then to the apartments themselves and there are no lifts. My mum were allocated a room on the 2nd floor but actually including the initial steps to the pool area, this was like the 4th floor and we asked to be moved as my mum has a knee problem. Maria, the owner, was very helpful and gave us 2 rooms to choose from so luckily we were able to move to a lower floor (which was still quite high up).
We had superior rooms and although a good size and modern, i would call them 'new' rooms rather than 'superior'. The only real differences were the size, a flat screen instead of a normal TV, a walk in shower, a microwave and coffee maker. The shower was not good at all, there was little room in the cubicle and no shelf to put things on in the shower, so had to keep bending in a very confined space. The shower itself was either hot or cold and kept falling off; if it hit someone on the head it could be very serious. I also felt for a superior room, air conditioning should be included; luckily we didn't need it but having booked superior, I wouldn't be happy to pay!! The superior rooms on the website looked very different; they were obviously dressed for photos but i think the photos should look as the rooms are offered. The cleanliness of the apartments was very good with maid service every other day.
The pool area was nice but we prefered the beach as it was breezy, it was very hot by the pool when the sun was out, even though the end of September. There were plently of beds and parasols and there was no need to reserve early in the morning; it maybe different in high season. There was a pool bar and prices much the same as in the resort (2 euros for a soft drink and 2.50 euros for a magnum ice-cream, so not cheap).
They had a free pasta night once a week and a weekly barbecue; we didn't attend either but the barbecue evening seemed very busy!
Overall we had a lovely time at the Rainbow and if i ever returned to Stalis, i would certainly consider them. Any problem/request was dealt with very promptly by Maria.
Stalis itself seemed a little tackier than when I last went 4 years ago and i probably wouldn't go back in a hurry, although there was a lovely beach and lots of nice restaurants. I can especially recommend Jannis Golden beach and Minos in the centre of the resort; Knossos a bit further along was really amazing, we went 3 times and couldn't fault it at all. The worst meal was the italian Amici and we refused to pay for my mum's vegetable lasagne as it was inedible and they really couldn't care whether we enjoyed it or not, whereas the local tavernas wanted you to enjoy your meal!! Lots of shops etc in the resort.
Good local buses to other resorts, however they didn't always run to time. Beach was very long and beds ranged from 3-5 euros for 2 beds and parasol.
All in all a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Best restaurants were Knossos and Jannis Golden beach. I though Maria Golden beach that everyone re...

Room Tip: some of the older rooms are tiny and we spoke to a couple who asked to move and maria did move them...
