“Fabulous hotel, great resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

The Heliotrope hotel is excellent,we had the most spectacular views from our balcony across the whole bay!! I don`t like lifts so I had to walk up the many steps but that was my choice, and it kept me fit!! The food was pretty good , 3 choices every meal, we were half board. The hotel was full of mainly Polish and Russian guests for some strange reason with only a few English peolpe there. The hotel is far enough away from any noisy bars but still close enough to the beach and shops.
My husband and I went on trip to Spinalonga which was very emotional for us both, I bumped into a friend of mine in the island, how weird is that??!!
All in all a fab holiday and fab hotel.
People with walking difficulities would find the hotel unsuitable because of the many steps and because of the hill the hotel is positioned on. We loved the hotel and the staff were very friendly and helpful, except for the night porter who didn`t even take us to our rooms. My husband had to manage the cases up quite a few steps on his own!

“Heliotrope is not bad at all!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

Hello all!

I would like to let you know a few things about the hotel.
The view is fantastic in this hotel.
The rooms are well decorated, the bathroom is small,it's true.Every room has a balcony or terace.
The hotel is very clean,I have pictures and I could never seen any spot in this hotel,of course if you are looking for one, maybe you can find it.
The food is not various, but it's good.Never missing meat salad and vegetables, how anyone can find on internet or in books, greek people like the vegetables and the salad. So in my opinion, the food was good.
The barman is not rude, but some people need to be educated,it's not nice to take 3 beers in the same time if you drink from one glass only.So it's not any problem to get one drink and order other one after you finish it if you are well educated.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone because I was there and I had a wonderful vacation. But the only thing I didn't like were the romanian guests in there who always complained and gave problems to everybody, even they were dancing on gipsy music when everybody was seating and resting. And they are the only ones complainers, because the prefer one hotel were to be spoiled every minute,to eat like pigs and drink 3 beers and dance on gipsy music, while the barman in going to serve them on the table.
So take care and have fun when you are going there! It's nice, believe me!

“The nightmare called HELIOTROPE HOTEL!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

Ok...this might sound a little suspicios...or not(!!) but I don't think there is a worse hotel in the whole wide world! Heliotrope SUCKS! And I am not kidding! Think about this for a second if you want to go there in a vacation...how many pictures have you saw on the internet with the hotel?! 4 or 5, right?!

Well, here's the story...
I went with my fiance and I was very excited about this because i have read good reviews. Once we got there we realized that the food wasn't the best, in the few days we found out that it was the only type of food that we get...the boiled one! If the lunches and dinners were a little different, the breakfast was the same every day: sausages, eggs, cereals and a sort of strange ham and even more stranger cheese. After the first dinner we went to the bar to have a drink...there the barman started to yell at us that we are not alowed to have 2 drinks at the same time and that was only the beggining. "You are not allowed to...." is his favorite phrase. He made our staying there a real hell by behaving as if he was the owner. If you go to all inclusive, you might have the surprise we had: we arrived one day at the hotel at 7:30, the dinner started at 6:30 and we didn't find 2 of 4 sorts of plates...The sheets have been changed only once...after we asked the cleaning woman to change them. The "facilities" from the hotel have to be payed or there is no way to use them, so if you don't meet nice people whom to have fun with, as we did, you have to just stay there and watch the stars, because you have no entertaiment at all...3+ or 4* hotel...HA! HA! HA! That's a good one!

At the end let me explaine some thing as we were talking with someone from the hotel... The owner doesn't give a damn to that hotel, he buys the same food every day, he doesn't let the cook to have ideas, that's why there are the same plates every day.

So, at the end let me give an advice to you...don't never, ever choose Heliotrope Hotel if you want to have a great vacation!

“Don't go all inclusive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

Hi, I stayed in Heliotrope for a week. From my point of view there are some things that really can make you angry and spoil your vacation. I agree that the view is great (after all is pretty high on the hill) and the rooms are clean,but...let's start with dislikes: I had an all inclusive packet, which means that they should gave us some food "to go" for the days that we were on trips, well..in their opinion a lunch is made of two slices of bread and a slice of cheese. Morning breakfast is always the same (except the eggs that can take multiple shapes...) with very few options to choose (this applies to all meals). Now the bar was something special also, there were maybe 20 seats for a pretty large hotel, and here also all-inclusive is poor understood as you can choose between only draft beer, wine, ouzo and raki (most of them with high content of water). On top of that, you cannot order multiple drinks at one time and the bartender is very rude.
Other problems not linked to all-inclusive:
It's impossible to get hot water for shower early in the morning and there was just a small soap (for a 3* hotel:()
The swimming pool is very small for the size of the hotel (but indeed clean)

“low-cost Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

Lets start with the pros of the hotel:
- Lovely view
- Clean and tidy rooms with free air-con
- Quiet neighbourhood
- Kind staff
Cons:
- small pool
- poor food ( what the hell was that Greece is famous of tasty and fresh food the food in the hotel was un eatable)
- I don’t have anything against Polish people but this hotel was either run by them or I had a bad luck of being alone in a hotel fully booked by Polish people
- Bar – ok AI is generally not the best pick for the good drinks but if you don’t won’t to be ill do not get anything from the bar
- Grumpy bartender who obviously had a problem with serving drinks I think his name was Talis
- Quite long walk to the beach about 30 minutes … and to the proper location on the beach another 20 minutes
- Nothing to do for the kids in the hotel

Above all I love Greece and holiday was great little village is gorgeous at night, splendid restaurants with fresh and tasty traditional Greek food.
I recommend to visit the place and stay somewhere closer to the beach the beaches where not very crowded.
This hotel is far from everything I would recommend getting anything that is closer to the beach the normal bars.
