Arrival 10:30 in an area which resembled Balaman, the worst nightmare from Majorca etc.
First impression of the hotel from outside ..very clean and tidy. The inside was the same. Luggage was taken to the apartment and we found out why after a short walk. However, this was the quieter part of the complex being the otherside of the road and seperated from the main hotel.
What you are not told.
A safe in the flat will cost you 15 euros, best is to use it! I have never paid for a safe, so this was a nice surprise which I declined to use. I regretted it.
The electric works via the swipe card, A good system for saving electricity but with drawbacks.. Hence, when you go out, cold drinks and clima are off too.
Report any faults in the apartment immediately. It will take a long time to get anything repaired , if at all. Our phone was out during the whole week and It took 2 days to get the electricty fixed.
The small "pasta" restaurant is bookable only via the reception at no extra charge. I asked on my first day and the cook didn't make it clear what you had to do. Riffraff are also undesireable ( men have to wear trousers , women what they want ).
A small sports arena is kept alive by a group of animators. An excellent idea and if you like your sport, in particular volleyball and football, it's a must. Again, no info so it's insiders only. Tip: game times are 10am to midday.
Internet costs 6 Euros an hour. Go elsewhere, it's cheaper.
Vehicle hire ..it's also worth shopping around.
The beach is more or less private. A space with 2 loungers and an umbrella will cost you 6 euros a day. The day is from 5 minutes to all day.
Pool : the small one at the back was great, but is cleaned in the evening, so don't go swimming after you have had your dinner. Swimming late at night is not a problem provided you keep the noise down.
Loungers .. swimming pool sport of placing towels on loungers is only done by certain nations. I observed 4 people who walked from the older complex to the newer at around 8:30am to place their reservations. This was only bettered by some young germans who started the proceedings at 2am after being out on the Razz! Quite a laugh really if it wasn't so inconvenient to have all the loungers empty until 11am. Incidentally, after the Sunday change of holidaymakers, there were no towels to be seen and everyone was happy. So I guess it's a mentality thing.
Food. The main canteen was faultless. It provided european food in a buffet style. Queueing for specailties was a problem, around 20 minutes sometimes. Patience is required, that's all. The staff were quite friendly if you converse with them in a normal fashion, which a lot of "customers" don't appear to be able to, so hence the somewhat stiff approach of the canteen staff.
I personally recommend hiring a vehicle to see some of the lands interior. Crete can be very interesting and if you chat to the staff, they will willingly tell you what is worth visiting.
Now I know what to expect of the resort, I could easily go there again. Cramped beaches can be avoided, you just have to chat to find out where to go .. and the greeks do like talking. What appears to be a spanish nightmare from the 70s, can change into something pleasant. Children of all ages will enjoy it and even teenagers will be undoubtedly attracted to the international nightlife. Partygoers tend to be Brtiish and Dutch, which is reflected in the bars around.
