“Good value, pros and cons”

I just visited Crete for the first time and visited Kamari hotel for 5 nights based on favourable internet reviews so thought I'd add my own. On the whole its a quiet, simple and friendly place that is really great value for money - we paid only about £130 for 5 nights and breakfast. If you're looking for somewhere near the airport, then this is a good choice. Rooms are simple and clean, there's a really nice pool area, and its only a 10 min walk from restaurants etc. Breakfast is simple - bread, jam, some yoghurt, but for such a cheap price its pretty reasonable. A few pointers though - its in the flight path, and right next to the main new national road. I wouldn't say this spoilt our stay, but it wasn't the quiet, rustic Crete we were hoping for. Its in Kokkini Hani town, which isn't that nice a place, but thankfully we had a car so could visit elsewhere. Its also a nightmare to find because of the confusing junctions on the roads - so find some good directions from the internet. On the whole I'd say if you're looking for somewhere with easy access to the airport for a couple of nights then this place is excellent - but I wouldn't spend a whole holiday there, simply because of the location - I'd head for Elounda or Agios Nickolaos next time.

“Very sad to leave the Kamari this morning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2006

We arrived at Heraklion expecting to go to the Cosman hotel, but on arrival were told that it had closed for the winter and we were now staying at the Kamari. As the week progressed we got to know the family, mainly Soula who was always there with a smile at breakfast. We got Momma up dancing one night and she was so lovely, she gave us a leaving gift. The rooms were basic, but hey, what do you need, just a place to sleep and shower. The pool was lovely as were the surrounding olive groves. The walk to the beach wasn't far, though not recommended for the elderly or infirm. The family made it for us. Monika was great behind the bar too. We had a great budget holiday thanks to our diversion to the Kamari.

  • Liked — The friendliness of the family
  • Disliked — The shower
  • Tips/Secrets — Not really, but Momma likes a cocktail

“Loved the Kamari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2006

We have stayed at this hotel three times in the past 2 years - twice last year within six weeks!!!

We love it, Sula and Jordan and their Mum are lovely and make you very welcome.

I agree that the rooms are not 100% but I must say that we found them well cleaned and did not have a problem with that issue at all. The shower is a sort of olden day wet room but, hey when in Rome etc!

We just went to get away from the stress of life here and it was ideal - OK the planes come over and you can faintly hear the traffic noise but that was fine with us.

After sitting around the pool all day doing nothing the 15/20 minute walk down to the main street is welcome - a taxi down will cost you next to nothing.

We took my brother in law and his wife with us this summer and they also loved the place for what it was.

We have a week spare next week and we are thinking of returning, so that shows how much we like it.

“Lovely little place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2006

The Kamari Hotel in Kokkini Hani, Crete, is a lovely little hotel. It's a small little place (probably about 30 rooms, if that) and it's run by a friendly family who are very accommadating. I have to say it's a bit of a walk to the beach but the pool at this hotel is so nice that you don't really need to trek to the beach everyday.

The rooms in this hotel are small and could do with being updated and cleaned on a more regular basis but overall they are fine.

The breakfast is adaquate - cheese, bread, ham, eggs, cereal, tea and coffee every morning and you could pay extra for a cooked breakfast but we found that there really is no need.

There is a massive lounge area, which came in handy for a snooze when our flight wasn't leaving until 2am!

Overall, I would recommend this hotel but do watch how clean the rooms should be and ask for extra cleaning, if need be.
