We were invited to a christening close to Kammena Vourla and although our friends had recommened the Galini Palace, we thought we'd try something slightly cheaper and right by the sea. The rate of 90 euro for a double room per night made us believe that we would stay at a very decent three star hotel. We could not have been more wrong.
The first impression upon entering the receiption was fair enough, although the receptionist seemed very uninterested in his work, even if there did not seem to be many guests around. We were given a room at the second floor, and were told that they did not have a baby cot for our ten months old baby. We imagined he could sleep in our double bed, but when entering the room, we quickly realised that the double bed was in fact only a one-and-a-half type, which hardly fits two grown-ups. However, this was a minor issue - what really shocked us was that the room was increadibly dirty, with fingermarks on the walls, oily mirrors, plenty of dirt under the bed, old and torn curtains and a horrible bathroom - it reminded us of a pension we once stayed at 30 euro per night! I imemdiately went down to complain to the receiptionist, and his response was that the cleaning personnel had cleaned "that floor" this morning. When I said that they had obviously done a poor job, he just shook his shoulders and said there was nothing he could do. I then went for a walk about the premises among other to see the saltwater pool the hotel advertises as one of its main attractions. I don't think any human being has ventured into the pool for the last couple of years, and bar a couple who were trying to sunbathe on the broken chairs, the place was totally empty - and with an air of general negligence. Down by the sea, a couple of families were testing the water, in the muddy grounds and with plenty of sharp stones. Passing by the dining room , with broken windows and vasdes of artificial flowers, I made a call to the Galini Palace, hoping they'd still have a room - which they did. Within an hour of our arrival, we left the plae, and when we went to return the keys, the receptionist seemed like lighting up for the first time, saying that it was "perfectly ok" that we just left.
Hotels like Sissy are a disgrace to the Greek tourism industry and should be forced to upgrade or close down. I really pity those poor people who stayed there, especially if they paid the completely unreasonable price of 90 euro per night!!!!!
