We were there in the middle of December 2011 for 2 nights, and we have to remember the best about this hotel!
My wife and I visited the Galini Spa for a two-day wedding anniversary.
We were positively surprised by the spacious, well-furnished facilities and the location, just across from the seafront. We also found the staff to be polite and efficient, and would gladly return with family or friends.
PROS
- Good food and plenty to choose from, our deal included buffet breakfast and dinner.
- Affordable beauty and massage treatments.
- The beds and pillows were surprisingly comfortable, as was the room itself.
- Coastal resort of Kamena Vourla is five minutes away on foot, with additional cafes and restaurants available for those who want to step outside.
CONS
- Spa pool is quite small, and 2/3 of it -- along with the massage jets -- are given over to cooler sea water, which at 24 degrees Celsius is a little uncomfortable for most people.
- The corridors are narrow with a marble floor, no carpet, so the sound of high heels outside is quite audible. Not for light sleepers.
Me and my wife visited the hotel for a weekend in order to get some rest and enjoy the spa. We decided to pay something more in order to stay in an executive room rather than a superior one that had twin beds instead of a double.
Initially we were given an executive room with a sea view, but...with no sea view. The sea was hidden by trees. The very pleasant thing was that the reception was very willing to proceed with a room change to make us happy. So this issue was fixed.
One thing that we didn't like with the executive rooms was that the decoration was pretty "poor like". There was a carpet and 2 old (or "oldlike" armchairs). The room was quite big but quite empty too. The bed was pretty big (king size) but the matress was very "tough". I had an awful sleep during the two nights we stayed there.
Additionally, the aircondition was old, broken, full of dust and wasn't working properly. At least...it was working a bit.
So, in terms of "executive room", I don't think that the room was worth it, especially for a 5* hotel. There was not even a coffee facility and even though we paid a good deal of money for the room, we were not offered any bottle of wine, or at least a bottle of water.
But the most annoying of all was the total hotel's policy! No free water was offered during breakfast of dinner. We had to pay 2 euros for a 1litre bottle (which is not usual for greek hotels). In addition the service at the pool was rather poor. We waited for half an hour before someone came to ask us whether we'd like something to drink.
We used to have our coffee by the pool and the annoying was that we paid 9 euros for 2 coffees, served at... plastic cups.(and the coffee was not good,,,).. I guess it would not be that difficult of expensive for the hotel to serve using glass...
The breakfast and dinner was excellent. As well as the personnel, they were all very kind. The buffet was very rich and they served EVERYTHING! (except free water... :) )
The only bad thing is that the restaurant didn't have any airconditiong...or at least it was off..
As far as the spa is concerned, all services were great and the personnel was very willing to serve.
After researching hotels in this little seaside village, I was very hesitant to stay at what appeared to be a very large property, but it turned out to be quite intimate and lovely.
The pools were clean, although the Mai. Pool had a bit too many kids running around a d the thermal spa pool was a perfect temp. Their spa is wonderful, relaxing and clean. Our room rate came with complimentary breakfast which was a huge assortment of foods and the dinner buffet which was also quite good. We love great food, and everything was delish!
The hotel was very nice, the food was amazing, the spa was expensive, the facilities were damaged, the pool was shallow and shared so that each one comes from outside, uncontrollable, not stayed at the hotel, so there are no available sunbeds for the hotel guests , the staff was typical behavior, they do not replace the finished shampoos and shower gels of room, only upon request.
