“Beautiful building, fab views, great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Beautiful old buildings greet you as you take the small winding road up to Le Prieure.

Our greeting was friendly and the ambience and decor was great. Just what I'd wanted as a 50th Birthday surprise for my partner and though our bedroom was not large, the decor was stunning and the views over the River Loire matched it. Glamorous historic old style would be my description.

Our meal was lovely and not particularly expensive, again seated at a table overlooking the Loire made it exceptional and the service was excellent.

We had braved the cooler weather (late April) and been the sole inhabitants of the open air pool, which would be lovely in the summer but "heated" would be an exaggeration! Mustn't grumble. Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds and idyllic setting.

Room Tip: Most rooms are accessed via a winding stione staircase so disabled people may need to ask for a grou...

“A Truly Idyllic Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

This place is simply wonderful and perhaps the best place I have ever stayed. The combination of the room, the view, the ambiance, location, staff...basically everything about this place was so pleasing. Leaving was very hard to do! Amazing views of the Loire; seeing the sun rise over the river was beautiful. Perched on the hillside, it feels a bit isolated -- but in a good way. Very quiet and peaceful. And romantic! Saumur is about 15 minutes away and if you are looking for a restaurant off-site on a Sunday, good luck finding a place. But the hotel restaurant is very good, so dining there is hardly a sacrifice and in any case makes for a more relaxing and enjoyable meal knowing the way home is a few steps away rather than a drive. In short, I highly recommend this place. I hope I get back here some day.

Room Tip: Hard to see how any room could be better than room No. 2. Stunning views.

“Nice but!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

We stayed for 5 nights and the views from our bedroom, (number 2), were fantastic. However, it was totally unsuitable for my disabled wife and for that reason alone I will never go there again.

The price was also a bit on the heavy side given that the service was not as it should have been and the staff training was not all that good.

“Fantastic stay...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

We stayed at Le Prieure for 3 nights / 4 days in the middle of a very quick escape to France. We were upgraded from a Superior to a Deluxe upon arrival. Our room had beautiful views of the Loire and was very spacious. The staff spoke excellent English (which, given my not excellent French, was very helpful) and was extraordinarily courteous and helpful.

We ate at the restaurant on a Saturday night - the food was stellar and the service was top notch.

We'd highly recommend the hotel and restaurant - very romantic, very quiet, great views, great staff and a lovely stay. It's a perfect place to use as a base to explain the greater Loire Valley - we did day trips every day.

“Fantastic flavours of the Loire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

The idyllic setting of Le Prieuré, with it's high views out over the Loire was a perfect start to an absolutely excellent meal. Although I was initially unusure of what to go for on the menu, which mostly consisted of regional dishes, I was not disappointed.

The food that came was absolutely delicious. Local flavours and creative combinations were presented exquisitely, and the young, knowledgeable and friendly staff worked tirelessly and professionally throughout the evening to ensure that everything was perfect.

Although some of the internal décor may be a little tired, the knowledge that Le Prieuré is still run by the same family who opened it as a restaurant in the 1950s is gratifying.

If the delicious food and stunning location were not enough, the comfort and feeling of exclusivity of the place made it worthy of its four stars. Excellent.
