We chose the hotel to act as a base for going to the Bayeux Tapestry and the Normandy Beaches from Cherbourg. It fulfilled that role admirably and in a lovely setting. Our room had a lovely view of the sea BUT this was through a tiny window. That, the low ceilings and lack of lighting made the room very dark. I am only 5 foot tall but I managed to bang my head twice on the sloping ceilings and my husband got several nasty knocks. The bathroom, although newly fitted, smelt musty . The shower was powerful and hot but always flooded the floor as the screen was much too small. The toilet never looked very clean. There was just about enough space for our belongings for a three night stay for two but the 5 hangers and two drawers would not have been enough for a longer stay.
We were on the second floor in a part of the hotel with no lifts and were offered no assistance with our bags on arrival - this to be fair was the only occasion when the service was lacking - the rest of the time we received excellent and friendly service from all the staff.
Because of its location you either have to have dinner at the hotel or drive down to the port for dinner. It is only a 15 minute walk but there is no street lighting or pavement for the last part of the route so we did not fancy walking back in the dark. The first night we ate in the hotel and there was a very nice buffet for 26 Euros. We returned the second night only to find the buffet was not in operation. The third night we drove down to the port and ate at an excellent little bistro in a back street.
The breakfast was good, fresh and plentiful but we went down late when we were almost the only customers.
There is free wi-fi (if you dont mind logging in again every few minutes) and a pc you can use in the lobby. The bar area is quite pleasant except when it fills with cigarette smoke - we couldnt work out where this was coming from - and when both the TV and canned music are competing with each other.
It wasnt warm enough to use the pool but this looked pleasant enough.
If you have a mobility problem it may not be for you as breakfast is on the first floor in a part of the hotel with no lift and where there are a few steps just to get to the ground floor rooms.
