“Classic Car tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

With a group of friends, I organise a classic car tour each year, in different parts of Europe. We do this both to have fun and raise money for a children's hospice. This year, in September, we finished a tour of Normandy and Brittany with two nights at this wonderful Chateau.

Our stay here - there were 28 of us - was the highlight of the 8 day tour. The rooms and the food were superb and the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chateau Cheneviere for a stay, no matter how short or how long, and we will certainly be returning here in the future.

Room Tip: Ask either Francoise or Aurelie for advice.

“The winner of our trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

This hotel was the winner of our trip to Normandy/Loire/Paris. We requested a room with a deluxe room with a patio. It wasn't in the main building, but that was fine with us. The patio was beautiful and the room was well appointed. The bathroom was great though - a bath/shower with a "rain" type shower head. Funny thing to comment on, but the water pressure was amazing too. We had dinner and quite enjoyed the overall meal. It was very good (not out of this world, but very good). My wife wished we stayed here longer... We didn't get to use the pool but that looked nice, too. Go for a quick tour of the vegetable gardens - those were pretty impressive.

“Great find!!!”

What a fantastic lovely property. The moment we arrived the staff treated us as if we were their only guests, so easy going. Our room was a lovely decorated large corner room overlooking the well maintained property. I thought the fabrics and attention to details including the bathroom were extremley nice. Walking around the grounds and pool area was a pleasure. We dined at the hotel and were very impressed as to how well it was run. Both the service (extremley friendly) and the food (6 courses) were excellent. We were not rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The only problem was that we only stayed one night, two or three would have been so much better.

“Nice Normandy Escape”

My girlfriend and I stayed for five nights in the Chateau La Cheneviere and had a delightful visit. From the moment we arrived until the day we left we felt totally at home thanks to a wonderful staff of true professionals. The hotel is very convientally located outside of Bayeux within a short distance of the Porte-en-Bessin harbor making it extraordinarily convenient for visiting the myriad of tourist attactions in the area. The breakfasts are extremely well done with a good selection of everything one could ask for. Dinner can be expensive but I consider that typical of France and not just of this hotel. The food was excellent, we ate dinner twice during our visit and had no complaints. Service was almost too good, but then I'd rather have too much attention than hardly any at all. The primary attaction of this hotel is its wonderful location and beautiful grounds. The rooms in the main building were reasonably sized and well appointed, although I would have prefered something a little larger and would recommend investigating a suite in the adjacent building (and air conditioning) if you are staying for more than one or two days. We were given a great location overlooking the front gardens and adjacent pastures, so we had no complaints other than the windows needed to be open at night due to the lack of AC (my girlfriend is not into warm weather) and the noise from early morning departures woke me up a couple of times. The grounds and the bucolic setting combine wonderfully with the lovely buildings, and with a perfectly attentive staff, our visit was very delightful.

Room Tip: Ask for an AC room if available.

“Wonderful Staff & beautiful rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

My husband and I stayed at Chateau La Cheneviere in Normandy on July 13-16, 2011. We arrived (very weary) after a long trip from Los Angeles. On arrival the wonderful front desk staff upgraded us to a beautiful two room suite. What a lovely surprise. I explained to the young woman checking us in that American Airlines had lost our luggage and that we were just starting a three week vacation. The CDG Airport AAL representative said that we probably wouldn't see our bags for several days because it was a French Holiday. No one would be willing to deliver them during this period. Since we would be traveling again in three days the chances of our bags ever catching up to us were slim at best. She immediately asked us for the lost luggage tag receipts, etc. and said she would work on getting an answer the next day from American Air Lines in Paris. The next morning, (in our same tired travel clothes), we toured the Normandy WWII historic sites with a wonderful guide arranged by the hotel. When we returned that evening around 6 PM we found our "lost" bags in our room much to our delight! The young woman at the reception desk spent most of the day on the phone with American Air Lines at CDG. She told them in no uncertain terms that they were to get our bags delivered even if they had to put them in a Taxi to drive the 1 1/2 hours to Normandy. We were so impressed and grateful that she was willing to spend much of her day on the phone to help us. This is a lovely small hotel and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Normandy area. Their website is www.lacheneviere.com The only negative experience was in the Restaurant. We had a similar situation to Mullion's with the Sommelier.
