Even after reading many Tripadvisor reviews I didn't know what to expect; the hotel and its staff exceeded our expectations by some margin, even after staying at good hotels and Chambres d'hôtes in France, so much so that it was hard to leave. Do yourself a favor and book at least three days here, there's a lot to see nearby, from Carcassonne to Toulouse, the Black Mountain and the Canal du Midi (all less than an hour away by car). The hotel restaurant is an exceptional plus.
Good:
- Rooms nine and six are big, beds are comfortable, good shower, very clean; Room Nine is a sight in itself with a (post retro modern??) style: room six is more simple but still excellent;
- The view is spectacular.
- Friendly, efficient staff.
- Small pool.
- L´Occitane en Provence bathroom products; no mosquitoes. Free, fast wifi internet; sufficient parking in front of the hotel.
- Breakfast is good (for France), with croissants, bread, fruit, juice, cheese and cold cuts.
No cons (which is exceptional for me), a few quirks:
No air conditioning, the air in room six did feel a little stuffy, but opening the windows solved it, so there's no need for it. The reservation system is circa 1990s, but works.
- Cap De Castel Puylaurens
