“Pleasant stay”

This hotel rates very highly on tripadvisor, so we had high expectations. I feel it lives up to the hype but I think when it has such glowing reports its hard to arrive with an open mind! We stayed here for 5 nights and used it as a base for our travels around the Loire Valley. This is a little bit off the beaten track and a car is neccessary. I wouldn't say it is the nicest village but its okay. The rooms are smallish but comfortable, breakfast, the usual and quite okay. It seems to me most people come for the restaurant and it really is excellent. We ate here on our first night and it was very good. The other nights we ate in neighbouring Blois ( a pleasant town) and a local bistrot just down from the Maison, it was okay too. The last night there we ate a picnic on the rooftop terrace( there are excellent local produce shops very close by) and watched the top notch chefs at work in the kitchen below(thru the sky light!!) I would recommend but the restaurant is expensive.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2011

A reasonable hotel with clean functional rooms close to the remarkable chateau at Chambord.

The is a roof garden where you can sit out and smoke if you wish. You can also peer into the kitchen which we did. We were glad that we didn't eat in the restaurant after what we witnessed!

“More restaurant than hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2011

We stayed here for one night as a stopover on a long journey from the Dordogne back to Calais....we booked through chateauxhotels.co.uk where you have the option to book the restaurant which we thought would be a great idea as we would be tired from the drive.
Arrived in the village to find what appeared to be a building site surrounding the hotel as they appear to be digging all the roads up and renovating the area surrounding the church opposite...it looks like this will be the case for a good couple of months so be warned....very dusty.
Checked into the hotel which was nicely decorated and a complete contrast to the drab village in which it resides....unfortunately the hotel seemed to have lost the booking for the restaurant which we were not best pleased about and they didn’t seem too bothered by. They booked us into a sister restaurant but this was at least a 30 min drive from where the hotel was so we cancelled and drove into Chambord (5 mins)and ate at the Hotel Grand St. Michel which overlooks the chateau....excellent food with a great view (so possibly a good thing they lost our booking at La Maison).
Hotel was OK but not great...emphasis was definitely on the restaurant and the hotel part seemed like an afterthought...air con didn't work (surprisingly hot for May)...7 Euros for a 33cl organic beer was just a tad expensive if you ask me :-0

“Lovely Surprise - Must book Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

We booked this hotel on spec because it was handy for the Chateau Chambord and it turned out to be a lovely surprise. The Hotel is kitted out in a modern style and very good value for money. It is a nice 10 minute scenic drive along the Loire from Blois.

You can park in the square opposite the hotel and staff are very helpful.

One peice of advice though is book dinner in advance. The cosy restaurant is quite small and very popular with the good people of Montlivault. There is nothing else in the village, so a drive to Blois is the only option. The receptionist noted our disquiet about not eating in the hotel and reserved us a table in a very good brasserie in Blois which had easy parking. She also gave very good directions.
