We choose this location based on other very positive stays with hotels in the Chateaux et Hotels group and the hotels own website
We stayed for 2 nights at Les Molieres and overall left feeling let down by the experience
For a start the property is better described as a B&B than a hotel and we would not normally choose this type of accommodation.
The entrance to the property is via an obscure side gate which is not obvious from the road and makes coming and going somewhat inconvenient. This is not helped by numerous dogs which were always running around the yard.
We arrived at the property at around 3pm and where told check in was not until 4pm. This fact was not explained at the time we made the booking.
The reception we received form the owner was somewhat gruff and made us feel ill at ease. Our mood was not improved by the rather strange smell that was present in the entrance of the building and one of the two rooms we had booked.
At no stage during our 2 day stay did the owner mention that it was possible to have an evening meal at the hotel. We found it rather strange to return back on the first evening to find some other guests enjoying dinner in the dining room. Perhaps the owner did not feel comfortable with the fact that we spoke limited French?
What really spoilt our stay was the exterior of the building. The advertising shows the hotel surrounded by beautiful gardens and a pleasant looking pool area (a pool being one of the reasons we booked to stay at the hotel). The reality was something completely different. It appears as though the gardens have not been maintained in a very long time. The garden beds are overgrown with weeds, grass more like a field than a lawn and even hanging baskets at the front door contained plants dying apparently due to a lack of water. As for the pool, a layer of green slime around the edge of the pool was enough to put us off ever going for a swim.
This was disappointing because the building itself would otherwise be a very pleasant place to stay. We had no complaints with the rooms which were clean, pleasantly decorated, offering very comfortable beds and plenty of space.
The breakfast we had on both mornings whilst simple (juice, yoghurt, muesli, croissants and bread) was of good quality. Some of the best croissants we have eaten in France. There were other breakfast options available at additional cost which we did not feel the need to try.
The building is a little isolated being located in farmland on the main road between local villages. Apart from the need to get in the car to travel to restaurants, we found the location to be perfect for exploring all the attractions in the area.
