“Perfect”

We have just got home having spent two weeks at the Hotel Orphee and it was perfect for us and for what we wanted. Yes it may have been nice to have a marina to walk around as in Cavtat but by staying at the Hotel in the evening it got us chatting to other guests and the staff. Every single member of staff spoke English, OK some not quite so well as others but it was a whole lot better than my Croatian!! They were, without exception, professional and polite. The entertainment team of Adrian, Eddie, Pamela and Sara were such good fun - despite us not wanting to join in with some of the activities, we were happier watching. The food was consistently good, offering four choices for the evening meal and I don't think a day went by when we didn't have a chef's salad at lunchtime - scrummy!
The pool is stunning and quite cold but when it's 30 degrees, it's just what you need.
A trip to Dubrovnik must include a walk round the old city's walls - tiring but breathtaking scenery and views. I would also recommend a trip in the cable car.. There's a building at the top where there is a lot of information about the war (20 years ago), a lot to be learned from visiting - the films in particular were very powerful.
We also did the three island trip and would thoroughly recommend it - approx. £30 for the whole day including a fish lunch and drinks.
All in all, a perfect holiday.

Room Tip: We were in C12 and had a perfect view of the beach and the mountains

“relaxing”

We read the reviews on this hotel and I suddenly wished I hadn't booked to go there. However on arrival our room was clean and modern enough. The food I was dreading from what I'd read but there was something for everyone unless you were very fussy indeed. To be honest if you're that fussy you would always find fault. Anyhow we enjoyed the meals well enough, not adventurous I have to say but tasty nonetheless. The staff at the restaurant were particularly helpful and friendly, with a special thanks to Duska and Ivenka. though we found them all to be quite nice. There was the odd one or two a bit surly(not in the dining area) Overall a relaxing holiday, but Cavtat was pretty, Plat I have to say is a bit of an eyesore, they need to demolish those shelled out buildings surrounding the hotel. The pool area very nice, but millions of wasps (not an exageration) flying around.

Room Tip: Try to book the upper floor (D)14 for a fantastic sea view

“A gem in every sense”

My husband and I have just spent a week in Hotel Orphee and in our opinion some of the reports we read before going do not do the place justice and for this reason feel obliged to update potential future holiday makers. We had a modern very clean room with air conditioning, a balcony with sea view in the hotel. It was very comfortable. We booked B&B prior to arriving but decided to try evening dinner in the hotel restauraunt on our first evening there. We were amazed at the value for money of 7Euro pro night per person. It was a 3 course buffet style meal with great variety each evening for each course. We ate there every night except one when we dined in Dubrovnik. We found the food excellent, the restauraunt staff very friendly and attentive and the staff throughout the complex very professional. We noticed a great number of French people dining in the hotel restaurant, surely an indication of the quality of the food there. There is a fabulous swimming pool which is built overlooking the sea in such a way that one feels one is on the deck of a ship as one sunbathes and enjoys the beautiful scenery. There were people of all ages holidaying there i.e. families with children of all ages, young couples and more senior couples like ourselves as well as groups of friends of all ages. There were activities organised twice a day by the very agile ‘activities team’ to suit the tastes of all e.g. water aerobics for interested adults as well as games for the children. One could opt in or opt out. It was possible to travel to Dubrovnik or Cavtat by minibus or by boat by arrangement with hotel reception for approximately 8 to 10 Euro return. Well worth the money. We needed a relaxing week and were delighted with what we got here. If one wanted one could rent a car on the site which would allow one to be more independent. There are apartments also on the site.

went to the hotel orphee in croatia with friends
the hotel was good, view not very good large tree infront of balcony, but lets face it did not go to stay in my room so no problem
Food basic but okay, rather a free for all at breakfast but fun though.
pool was good one of those that look like you drop off the edge, cant think of the name
surroundings very damaged during the war but had some great days out to Cavtat and dubrovnik via the water taxis and they had some characters on them and we were offered local brew, that blew your head off
weather great 1 evening of terrible storm next day clear.
Would go to DubrovniK again it was magical and what a view from the sea
. All the shops seemed to sell the same stuff, so didnt buy much which is a good thing I suppose,
.
Been to Croatia before and will go again in the next dew years

“A quiet, friendly resort but for us it just wasn’t the authentic Croatian experience or quality we were hoping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

Croatia is a beautiful place and we enjoyed taking in the culture, sampling the food and marvelling at the scenery. Dubrovnik was stunning, although starting to increase more with tourism and thus prices are increasing it is certainly not worth leaving Croatia until you have been here. Also worth visiting are, Cavtat and the wonderful Elafiti Islands [boats leave from the Dubrovnik port]
However we were disappointed with our stay at the Hotel Orphee and the hotel falls down in several key areas: Food, facilities and resort.
However starting positively the rooms were clean, modestly but pleasantly presented and have fantastic balconies. Ensure you are on the top level however and no further than room 13 otherwise you will either have a restricted view on the lower levels or a view of some trees. Luckily we had an amazing view where the sunset often became the feature of our photos taken and listening to the waves lapping at the shore, an evening highlight.
We went half-board and sadly the food really disappointed. As stated in previous reviews the half-board does not include drinks so watch for costly add-ons here. Breakfast was acceptable offering the usual continental options of tea, coffee, juice, fried breakfast and cold meats and breads. On the last night we did venture to the other resort restaurant [not included in the half-board stay] Here you can have fresh seafood and meat cooked over an open grill. I had fresh prawns, salad and fish pate. It was a wonderful, delicious meal which was affordable and coupled with stunning views across the water and even the view of dolphins jumping up over the sea, a real highlight of the trip.
The Plat resort has seen better days. Although we found the service was generally good and very helpful the resort could do with a bit of redecorating. Also, the on-resort local shop was very limited in choice of foods and drink and in their opening hours. If you have a car I would recommend travelling to the near-by [15-minutes] grocery store. Further, the Plat resort is very quiet and slightly secluded so if you are looking for any nightlife, this is not the place to stay. But it does have decent transport links with day-trips to Dubrovnik and the bus at the top of the road to Cavtat.
We had mixed weather when we went in May. It rained for the first two days and then went to clear sun after that. I would recommend visiting Croatia in late May to June to enjoy the hot weather without too many other tourists.
Overview Hotel Orphee is a quiet, friendly resort but for us it just wasn’t the authentic Croatian experience or quality we were hoping.
